I've just sold my RA, top end cus of the gearing you'll struggle to go over 130, EVEN when delimited...............


They wern't made for top end, they're sprint cars and up to 100 they're very quick but die after that............

if it's restricted then the to speed will be 112mph no matter what the gearing is.

fwiw i had a 1999 wrx ra and seen an indicated 160mph on the speedo, only mods were exhaust and filter otherwise standard.

its worth remembering its built as a race spec car... so is gonna be for acceleration, not top speed... so shorter gears...

if you mean a proper RA with the crazy sort gears, they geared to about 130 on the rev limiter in top, but you will hit that fast as they accelerate like cunts.

thing is with scoobies there a good few ratio boxes and diffs in the different models and so many have been swapped, its hard to be 100%

cause theres nio fucking way a type ra gearbox will do 160 unless dropped from a plane

a sti maybe but a type ra has a low gearbox as its based on a race car as mentioned

steve i seen hes coment, i was offered a type ra in white last november fo a cheep price and was tempted till i was told that they struggle for 130 and they are reving there arse off to get there based on the box they use

thought about the swopping of boxes but that made me loose interest

hes coment confirms what has been said though

but id still say 160 in a scoobie ra its stilll bollox from 70% of people as most aint been near that speed as a passenger, they get to 130 and say it was 160 as they feel1 130 dont sound cool enough,, the reality is 160mph is alot faster than people belive

The type ra is a great car and i loved my 1993 model...they are brilliant to drive but not if you do a lot of motorway work! Top speed on the classic shape type ra is 125 mph apart from the v-limited models which had a higher 5th gear and is around 155 mph ...new shape type ra's also had a higher 5th gear.

i believe the boxes are the same apart from 5th gear.you will soon know if yours is a type ra box as 70 on motorway will be about 4500 rpm and it will be perfect for trackdays The trouble with type ra's is that because they rev high and on a jap map for 100 ron fuel,there is a lot that have melted and then replaced with a standard wrx engine without the closed deck block etc

power fc boost controler and re map for optimax front mount and decat are the first mods along with 4 pots
will try this week if not happy with top end il take box out and put longer 5th
