Default what track car?

I've come to a bit of a cross-roads with my various car projects, and going out on track at silverstone made me have a re-think. As you know i've got a 90% completed escort in the gargae for track duties... but i can't see a 16psi (or around that mark) budget built Rst engine coping with the abuse its going to get, I'm also thinking i may need 4wd to cope with my cornering, I drove aboslutely on the limit round hairpins at 50mph - might not sound much but round a 100 - 135 degree hairpin its fast and the limiting factor was my toyos, which gripped very well, the rear end stuck in place but the fronts showed the signs of my hard cornering and were the limiting factor. I hopefully have a buyer lined up for the Si, in which case i was planning on sinking the cash into my merc to get that finished and sold on, hopefully leaving me with 3 or 4 grand clear profit which would have completed my plans. I'm not sure wether to keep the car, and change the engine which i have just fitted but not yet wired up or to break the car as theres a lot of money sat in it and get something else track dedicated.

It'd have to be road legal as i don't have a car trailer or anything to tow one if i did, and being 21 i'd need something not to insane on insurance so cossies are out the window.

my escort is stripped and has monacos and 4 points inside, Avo coilovers, Comp MO's 300mm St220 front brake stup RS2000 270 solid rear setup braided lines new pipes bigger master cylinder and dot 5.1(plan to change to SRF) so the handling and stopping would be upto a fair bit of power plus the fact is i'm quite attached to the car and its body work, any suggestions?

i ran an rst on the track for around 4 years.. loved the fun of it .. at 22psi i overtook a few cossies aswell cornering is down to how you set up the suspension etc...
much more on the edge than a 4wd cosssie i can tell you that much.. although the cossie manages 105 through craner with no hassles dunno if i would try that in an escort

... my rst lump is internally standard, i have a sierra cos T3 and massive cooler and a few other bits inc 3" exhaust i was planning on pushing for around 200bhp but i can't see a standard RST surviving the kind of thrapping i'd be giving it

hmm i just don't think i could afford to insure a saph especially a non standard one that would spend little time on the road, and despite the cheapness of such cars i can't aford a 3k bill to replace a blown engine

what do you call serious abuse though ??
if you mean screaming the tits out of it down a straight to edge past an escoss or dropping 2 gears whilst breaking coming into a corner too fast then mine survived well enough.. the secret is to get the fuelling set up and sorted out.. too many people forget that one simple thing and end up melting pistons.. mine were standard mahle .5's and did 10 track days with no hasles .. unlike the original ones that gave up due to the amal valve falling apart giving unlimited boost .. 30+psi down the back of silverstone cracked all the land on all 4 pistons

Ddo they fuck you could buy a MINT crx for the price of a shit cossie. Spend 3k on a crx and it would secure you a minty mint 1 that probably has the basic mods ie exhaust filter suspension etc.

So if you prefer ford what model would tick all your boxes ie performance, value, reliability, etc etc

well i've said what i'm after at the top, ideally a ford, and i have a mk5b escort that is almost track ready but i'm unsure of the cvhT's reliability at that level and i also have a mk4 3i 1.9 thats well equipped and quite rapid but rottern and would need to donate its bits to another car ... plus i should have some cash to do this with at a later date, what are my options

Your best option is to admit to yourself your wasting your time with the old fords and buy something small light and n/a there are loads of options.
