Default Relocating battery to the boot?

What is involved in relocating the battery to the boot?

Where can I get a long lead?

Do you need any kind of distrbution block or can I just connect the new power lead to the standard one?

Are there any kits around for this?

Has anybody done this before?

There was some good posts on this in the past, DazC gave some good info on it all, inc what gague wire to use allsorts.

Funnily enough i was going to look for em as i need to do this to my car ASAP.

If anyone finds the links post em up here.

If not, Daz, just explain it all again, lol.

Can I just take one cable directly to the starter?

and then I guess I can take the once that go to the fuze box directly to the battery as well (I bealve there is 2 or 3 of them in my car)

Use as big a cable as possible as you will get a fair bit of volt drop due to the length and the current drawn when cranking the engine.

Do it as Rod's car is with a distribution post. Earth the battery to the body directly and also a huge cable to the engine block.

Basicly from the - and + original positions you just run large bore cables to the new position in the boot or what?

Or just ground the - in its current place and ground the - of the battery in boot direct to the boot floor?

Or both? Whats a distribution block? Im thick, me

Steve,

Basically you can either use a stereo distribution block (that gold block in rod's picture) or a rubber block with a stud at either end (like the one in Rod's picture to the left of the gold block).

I would advise you earth the battery locally to itself (decent size cable, 150a should be ok) and also one big fook off cable (315a rating or greater would suffice) from the battery to the engine block and earth any of the origional cables to the body. You could use a distribution block for the earth as well if required instead of going directly to the engine block but that would mean 2 seperate cables and possible extra length increasing volt drop.

Commercial break!

Mines been done too.

Ground the -ve straight from the battery to the boot floor and ensure the engine is well earthed to the body too.

Mine has very thick cable straight from the battery +ve all the way through the car to the starter motor, and the other smaller leads that used to go to the battery +ve also go on the starter motor. although seeing that +ve terminal and distribution block in Rods pic I may do that to mine.

the cable from the battery to the starter is sheathed in a thick outer casing similar to spiral wrap to give it added protection.

That way would also work providing that hte contact surface area of the terminals to the body is great enough to allow current to flow. The problem arrises if they start to corrode though.
