Feeling for you Buddy, hope you spent the last two hours by her side, I know it's heartbreaking, as my German Shepherd was diagnosed with Stomach Cancer, and the vets only answer was that it was best to put him to sleep immediately. I asked for a couple of hours with him, and I would be back before he closed. I took him to a nice big park and spent the last two hours by his side, then back to the vets. It was heart breaking so I honestly know how your feeling.

Just think of the good times, and that she's out of pain now.

Thoughts are with you.

the vet was out local vet who knew him from when he was a pup , she said he had not changed in 15 years and was the happiest ill dog she had seen , he kept nudging her for a fuss when she was listening to his heart , bless him

she said that his heart and chest were not very good either but that didn't seem to bother him ! but he was only going to get worse

oh well , he had a good innings at 15 years !

15 years is a very good age for a large dog, our GSDs were only 12 yrs and nearly 11 yrs old when we had to have them put to sleep....

My Cocker Spaniel was bought for my 11th birthday, she passed away last year aged 13, that was the last time I cried Same agonising decision, was absolutely fine but kept messing, turned out she had diabetes too but you would never know it

SO so so sorry for you - I know EXTACTLY how it feels and its awful.

Less than a year I had to make the same decision about my dog.... I'd had her since I was a kid (over 50% of my life) and it was the hardest decission

Its very very rare these days a dog/cat dies in its sleep

The up side to that is they live much much lover than they use to....

The one bit advise I would give you is to get another dog ASAP!!!! Its not a replacement in any way... but it stops you doing stuipd things like filling up the water bowl and shutting the doors behind you.

You'll end up loving the new dog just as much - but for totally different reasons.

Even writing this is upsetting me thinking about Sybil, but I know I can make myself smile thinking about Izzy

we already have 2 other dogs, 35 chickens, 2 parrots, pond full of fish outside and a tank full of tropical fish so i think we have enough !

although they are all my old dears , just "big dog" was mine , don't think i will get another of my own though , not for a long while at least

I know how you are feeling, but remember that your last act of kindness was to have helped your friend leave this world in the most painless way possible. Just try and remember all the good times you had with him.

sorry to hear of your loss, but you did the right thing.
i had to have my 7yr old bulldog putdown 2 yrs ago and still think of him now. it's true that dogs dont show pain like humans do the vet told us that or dog must have been in pain for 3+ months because of the size of the tumor in his tummy. if it wasnt for us finding him fitting when we got up god knows how long he have sufered.
