Default Anyone reccomend A good tuner for mapping Megasquirt

ok time has come i origanally had my zetec turbo mapped by Northampton Motorsport who said they could map it, ( found out later he only mapped 1 standard 2.0 escort running megasquirt) but wasent happy with the service to be honest they was not to hot on megasquirt tuning, they couldent even get the laptop connected i had to do it plus they dident have a clue on some of the settings, i left 500 pounds out of pocket and car that stuttered every now and then, nothampton told me it wasent the megasquirt settings it was the engine ( later found out they adjusted acc enrichment way way too high ) the car still stinks of petrol after i boot it to this day, anyway this was about 8 months ago the cars covered 1000 miles now and its time for full map for full power, going to have my car fully mapped for my megsquirt ecu.

anyone reccomend best tuner out of these please.

tryed norris motorsports however they wont map it.

Automotive Performance Tuning

www.jam-sport.co.uk

PJ motorsport

anyone on here had there megasquirt mapped by any of these companys?

just want the best tuner that knows how to map megasquirt ecu,s properly as i wont be taking it back to northampton motorsports for the full map as they may know how to map but dont have a clue when it comes to mapping zetec turbos running megasquirt, it will be the last full map on this car so wana choose a good tuner wizely this time.

I take it you are down south?

I can do it, but am near manchester. APT will do it, they are in norfolk. Also, pm users Alex F, Gareth T (cardiff) and Garage19(sufolk) off here - they can do it too, all are very good.

Problem with MS, is that you need to be competent with hardware/software as well as engines - and sadly most tuners aren't.

seems theres only www.jam-sport.co.uk or PJ motorsport which are the 2 tuners in midlands.

might be time for me to change managment as looks like i cant find anyware that can put a decent map and also a tuner that can set all my varibles and boost tables in megasquirt properly

seems most places dont know enough about ms ecu

if he can do it, why not travel to get it done, make a day of it

not sure how long it will take, if its already running ok with it shouldn take that long????

id rather travel than change management

yes mate i have pmed rick waiting for a reply.

cars running fine still got a base map for running in however its now covered over 1000 miles so its time for a full map. as its running to rich.

had a email reply from Mark Broster from jamsports.

We have mapped a few of these in the past yes, We would be able to map you car for you, we would charge Ł450+vat for a full remap, we would map the car on the rolling road, then after this we run the car up the road to check drivability.

dont know how good these are regarding tuning megasquirt.

I would be happy to map your car but you are far away and i'm too busy at the mo to take on any more work. The wife would file for divorce

I have never spoken to Gary at APT but he would be my recomendation. I know they have mapped a few VEMS ecus which basically run the same software as megasquirt so he should be clued up.

I would give them a ring.

And did Northampton charge you Ł500 for a base map?? What a rip off.

Can't understand this whole thing of getting a running in map. Apart from getting the boost controller settings changed and maybe changing the limiter there should be no difference between a running in map and a full map. A crazy way to get more money out of people i suggest!

Out of that list, I would pick Jam-Sport personally, Jamie is very talented.

Id see if you can do it with another forum user first though, and not go to a tuner at all, far better learning experience that way if you get involved too

Due to the varying production standards, he wont map an ECU that quite possibly has a dry joint on an injector driver etc.

what cars guys did you take to www.mechmotorsport.co.uk for full map guys ?????????

Garage19

i only took it there as i rang them and they said yeah they can map it not a problem, later found out they mapped just 1 car on megasquirt previously, a standard 2.0 escort yes they charged me alot for the base map.

thats why i really want a proper tuner who knows what they are doing, how to set the car up right to get full power out my engine,

and also set my boost tables up properly this time, someone that just knows bits on tuning megasquirt units i really wana pay to have it done properly this time.

Why the fuck did you hand over 500 quid then if they didnt have a clue what they were doing!

People never cease to amaze me with the sloppy work they are prepared to pay for!

Whoah whaoh whoah whaoh WHOAH !!!!

before you go cunting off Northampton Motorsport I think you need to remember there are TWO sides to every story !!

If anyone for ONE MINUTE thinks that they charged Ł500 for a base map then you are VERY sadly mistaken.

This is the joke shop character who turns up with a car in bits on transporter which has only been booked one way and when I say in bits, the front bumper wasnt even fitted.

The guys at NM'sport spent all day sorting it out, and then even helped him re-assemble the car outside so he could actually drive it home and DIDNT charge for that.

Now two people working all day on a car is over 10 hours labour and they charge Ł50+VAT an hour........

And if I remember correctly, this is the same person who said they had only brought Ł350 with them as thats what they thought the job was going to cost...

So I think Northampton Motorsport actually LOST money on this.

BUT ...... For the record, Troy said the car was making stonking power but obviously as it was a fresh engine they didnt do any full bore runs and only set the car up for running it, but even at 3500-4000rpm it was pulling like a train.

They also said that they would finish the map once the car was run in and were actually looking forward to seeing what power it made in the end, now this is going back months and months, which is why I cant recall everything they had to do to the car just so they could start mapping it.

This wasnt a simple, bung it on the rollers and start mapping job.

And as we've seen other tuners are prepared to charge Ł450+VAT for mapping.....

I will revisit this post once Troy is back from his holiday on Monday and let EVERYONE know EXACTLY what was done for the money, just so the likes of Chimp & Garage 19 can see exactly how the bill came about.

Take note of the "IF" in my comment.

If in HIS opinion, the work was shit and they didnt know what they were doing, then why did he hand over the money.

I know nothing at all about the garage in question so wasnt making a judgement about them, I was asking him why he handed over money to them based on HIS judgement of them.

His car, his opinion, his money, I just wanted to know why he parted with it if he felt how he said.

Chip... you used the phrase 'Sloppy work'

implying that N'Hampton Msport had done a shoddy job..... which wasnt the case.

He paid for what he considered to be shoddy work, I asked him why?

I didnt say that in my opinion they had done shoddy work, I said I was amazed people pay for shoddy (in their opinion) work.

Apologies if it wasnt clear enough that I dont have a personal opinion of northampton motorsport from my original post

I was going to say this.

That and I wouldn't want to pay more for mapping that the ECU cost.
