Buying & Selling cars
How many cars can you sell in one year? I've been told if you sell more than two cars in 12 months your classed as a car trader? Is this true? Also, if this is true, how does it effect you?
Thanks

if you sell anything to make a profit its classed as trading and you have to declare it and pay tax legally, but there will be tons of bedroom traders on here that can teach all the dodges.

Many buy and sell on the sly, the problem comes with thelog book i would imagine.
The seller will want to send it off, you'll have to wait fo it to come through and then the buyer may want to know why your selling so fast
You can always mix things up by putting some in the misses name to cut down the number of cars registered to you in a year.

when you buy you buy it with the whole logbook you fill in the trade slip for them to send off, the yellow bit on the top right, what name you choose to put on the trade slip is up to you
they then send that off and it comes out of there name and shows on the dva pooter etc as in trade, worth also noting in trade cars dont need to be sorned either if no tax as there in trade hands
i declare many cars to the tax man but theres prob 20 odd a year i dont

some of the big dealerships used to have a yard full of trade in cars, soooo cheap, don't seem to do it anymore though
These where usually 10 year old cars in need of a good scrub for around 500 notes,

I've had 5 cars this year
I had 8 last year
No hassle from the DVLA... Reason for all the cars is I bore very easily. My MR2 is a bit of a record. Had it for 4 months now

Ditto Rab, I get bored easily and swap and change all the time, longest ive had a road going car however is the Vectra which ive had since January (which is going this week incidentally)
I do buy and sell occassionally from auctions though if something comes up cheap enough that I can turn over quickly.

and its not true you do not have to sorn a car if your a trader ,, you get a certain amount of time to sell it on, then if not sold a trader must sorn any car he has

Apart from the SORN issue I don't think DVLA are that fussed about whether someone is a "Trader" or not. The people with an eye on this are A) the tax man and B) the local Trading Standards Officers. Someone buying a car from a legitimate Trader enjoys additional rights that he doesn't have when buying from an individual.
The TSOs want to make sure Traders aren't ducking their responsibilities, and legitimate Traders are putting pressure on for them to do so in order to level the playing field - as Traders on here know, it's difficult to compete against someone with minimal overheads and no worries about disappearing off into the night!
