Default Welding up an exhaust

My daily drive has decided that it no longer needs a backbox fitted and has snapped just before the backbox joins the system (backbox intact) Typically, this comes just as the car was in for MOT saturday

Can I get it welded up? it's a standard exhaust system. I should imagine a whole new system including a new cat is going to be £800+ or something rediculous?!

Any advice?

The point is if it has snapped it is most likely due to it being rotten through with rust, so no point even trying to weld.
Might as well go for a performance after market system such as scorpion, but I don't know what works well on these cars, SS should only be around £350 ? for complete system with lifetime warranty though .

could you not "bodge" it with a cheap aftermarket back box, then clamp it over where the old one had fallen off? i know a welded system wont get past an mot...

A exhaust with a repair from a bake bean tin will pass so long as does not leak too bad.
All systems are welded from new anyway!!

I don't think so, as it's snapped off about about 10 inches or so from where the backbox begins. I'm going to ring the garage this morning to get a quote for a replacement. It's a Pug 306 1.9TD by the way.

Ring Euro Car Parts, they are dirt cheap for exhausts.

If its broken 10inches from the back box then its just needing a section of pipe welded in place of the rotten part, easy repair mate and do this all the time at work as customers always try to save money and say to repair their exhausts rather than replace them !!!

All you need to do is fine a suitable length of pipe that is marginally bigger than the original pipe and fit this over the existing and either clamp it or weld it in place, job done and saved yourself quite a few quid
