IIRC it was 44" tyres
the suspension was lifted
the body was lifted
some armoring underneath
lower gearing
engine still standard
obviously the very fetching wheel arch extensions



The hilux's are just so capable to begin with its amazing how little is really needed to be done!

 

That truck is fooking huge, looks small in them picas lol I work at the head office we had it there after it finished its Journey its a beast and a half

 

didnt the front wheels have to be moved forward too

they are pukka motors,,, hence why the 3rd world armys use em

them and nissan patrols

must admit the new hilux looks alot better than before and even better than the L200's too now

Toyota employees and a specialist company who deal with this sort of vehicle drove them back, and the TG lads did a Lee Manning (flew home by helicopter )

I believe the trucks are valued at about 100K each just in terms of the cost of supplying and modifying them, but they obviously have a publicity value far beyond that.

 

Hows the Body and suspention lifted bigger Shocks and springs for the suspention i assume but wat about the rest?

Also are the arch extensions one offs?

 

The arch extensions are hand made, but are not really one off as its a relatively common thing to do.

The body is lifted up off the chassis on brackets (effectively just blocks of metal)


Its nothing unusual in the world of modifying off road vehicles to do this, and its to gain clearance for the wheels in the arches essentially (the suspension lift though is to gain ground clearance).

 

was one of the trucks more modded than the other because at diffrent points in the program there was diffrences in the insides of the truck they where in

 

As far as im aware they were both the same mods, but one truck was slightly older so may have had different standard trim etc.

 

so what was the reason for them to swap from truck to truck then? me and my mates wondered if one was more modded to go through the ice boulders

Recorded it watched it today and thought it was fooking awesome

Without doubt the best programme on tv and the only thing i make a point of watching.

Clarkson is one funny coont and James May creases me up with some of his quibbles and the way he says things, Hammond is great on it as well and the 3 of them make it a hugely entertaining programme and just hope that after Hammonds accident they dont try to dull things down and make it safer
