10/40 way too thin.
I use SILKOLENE PRO S 10/50.
Mobil is a joke IMO, certainly does not perform like a premium oil in tests.

The Mobil 1 15w-50 is good stuff but not the best (group IV oil), if you want the best then you are looking at an ester based synthetic such as the Silkolene Pro S 10w-50 or the Motul 300v 15w-5(group V oil).

Trouble with Mobil 1 is you pay over the odds for the "Mobil" name.

Cheers

Cawood.
I don't go by hearsay, I was reading some tests done by certain people and Mobil 1 did not do very well, particularly for retaining viscosity ie it got thin and runny, but by No means as bad as CASTROL R.
Moby did not do so well in wear tests either, it must be remembered that the test were some of THE top oils, so any that get there are still excellent.
Real shockers for bad performance were CASTROL R, CASTROL SLX, ROYAL PURPLE.
From my own experience with MOBIL 1, I would not use it again, from the noise of the very hard worked engine it was obvious it was getting thin and castrol RS was even worse.
Don't get me wrong it is a excellent oil, but if you can have better you would wouldn't you ?

Saying that, when i changed my running in oil to Silkolene 15-50, my tappets havent stopped knocking since. Any idea what it could be? there wasnt a faulty batch of oil or anything was there? as it looked really thin when i put it in.

All enigne oils are clear, they add dye... normally golden to make you think it looks like oil. The dye in Pro S and Pro R just happens to be purple/red.

Not sure what you mean, but only the Silkolene Pro S 10w-50 and the Pro R 15w-50 are this colour. The Pro S 5w-40 is golden.

Cheers

I find SILKOLENE PRO S is definitely grape/purple in colour, and smells nice too, saves on glue and lighter gas I suppose, wonder if it does as much harm ?

i use the silkolene stuff and havent noticed any difference in my engine being louder

probably because my tappets arent worn and are set correctly

And i definately noticed a huge difference in noise when i changed to silkolene, and so did my mate, both at the same time.... I currently have the red oil in my car. (cant remember which weight it was)
