Default How does a 4wd oil pump out perform a 2wd oil pump?

As i need to build my engine tonight, and i found out last night my 4wd pump was badly damaged. (did have a new pump for the rebuild, but ended up being incorrect item)

Today i tried, but cant get a Ford 4wd pump till mid next week, and at which point is tooooo late, as cars meant to be running, mot'd, run in miles done, mapped for Next weekend for TOTB.

But i have a good low milage 2wd pump and pickup spare. and its good internally, with high flow/pressure spring fitted.

Are 2wd pumps ok for what i need? 500 bhp,8000+ rpm, track and road car.

As far as i can tell, the only real difference is the oil pump cog shaft is supported both top and bottom on 4wd, just bottom on 2wd.
i guess its a improvement Ford done.

In what way does a 4wd pump out preform a 2wd item?

i thought the only difference was the shape of the pick up pipe to be honest

it's bent differently to clear the intermidiate shaft so if you are running 4wd it won't fit

Cheers, i just put both a 2wd and 4wd pick up's together, and they look the same.

in 1/2 hour, i try fit the sump with it, but i'm just finishing the big wing.

I have already checked the pick up positions, and they are the same, with in 2mm.

Ok,

the pickup was slightly modifie'd on 4wd pickup to miss the shaft housing.

i modified the 2wd item in a few minutes.

now it hits my WRC baffle's, which could be modified in a hour.

But

I've decided i'm too far behind now to be fully ready for TOTB, as well as waiting on some parts from the USA, So i'm going to get a new 4wd pump, and fit the engine next Saturday, Ready for Ford Fair track session.
