Right then, I'd better add my two penneth worth. I'm registered with Universal Salvage and they describe Cat A as:

A vehicle so badly damaged, destroyed or deformed that has no major salvageable parts.

The vehicle remains will be crushed and an End of Life Certificate (V860) issued to DVLA.

So basically I suppose if there any any useful smaller parts they can be taken off by the buyer (but there's usually not much) but then the shell must be crushed and it cannot be returned to the road.
I really don't know how this could have got back on the road unless it was ringed. But even then when someone registers it with DVLA or taxes it (if they have) it would surely flag the CAT A status up. And if you see a genuine Cat A car you'd know why they shouldn't be back on the road, they're basically destroyed.

link to the car, and although it says sold, we told the buyer what we discovered and didn't sell it him.

if a cat C has been fixed/roadworthy again and it has the cat c taken off its record can you claim on the insurance?

someones just said to me that it can be insured to drive on the roads but no one will pay out a claim for it

is this true cos i dont believe a word of it to be honest....

i was led to believe that cat a cars are basicly dead metal that you can only wiegh in when it comes down to the nitty gritty of it

it shuoldn't beon the road so now you have to wonder how it got there in the first palce

you could ring a car with a write offs numbers, but why would you when you could just put a nother proper escort number on there?
then again, what are the odds of plucking a dead cars number uot of the hat when crims do these sorts of things eh they can't be that smart

my mate bought a cat A m3 cabriolet from a friend who is a scrap dealer, that had been upside down in a river causing a fair bit of damage, the car was repaired profesionally buy my friend using second hand parts etc.....but once this was done it was flagged up by the dvla as a write off.........and it was taken off the road untill a full inspection was done on the car and it was given a the right to put it back on the road with the original plate and not even a q plate as they could prove where it had come from............but this was 5 or 6 years ago and things may have changed !!
