Windscreen repairs, how much?
As title. Got a nasty chip on the wife's car last night, need some idea of cost of repair rather than pay £50 xs on the insurance.

£50 excess only applies normally to new ones not repairs, which most do free, just phone up a screen frim and they will soon tell you about your own policy as all on compy for direct billing etc.

I am a windscreen fitter by trade and deal with the insurance companies everyday, so here's the dinfinitive bottom line....
If you have a fully comp policy with glass cover, then you are entitled to have any piece of glass changed where you pay the excess (which dependant of insuranc company, could be £50, £60, £75 and a few are now £100) and the insurance company picks up the rest of the tab... This does not affect your NCB as it is a seperate thing, independant of your vehicle policy.
In regard to windscreen stone chip repair, provided the chip is repairable (two critirea : size dependant for both the physical repair and also size dependant for MoT) then your insurance company picks up the whole tab for the repair and the policy holder pays nothing.

Hi Plynchy,
As per Markyd3/thrush..
With most Insurers you pay nothing for a repair providing you use their approved repairer, this on the basis that by repairing the screen you potentially save them the cost of a full replacement.
If youre covered via Greenlight on our specialist vehicle schemes I can confirm that our panel Underwriters all offer free repairs.
Kind regards
Tony
