Any AV can be free if you look. Most people will mention AVG because its free and is convenient. If you want good ones that are more secure look at Trend Micro, Kaspersky or Nod 32.

Have a good google through all the reviews and make your own mind because the net is full of people who will say "never had any trouble with AVG" or "my best mates dog used it and said it was good" With an Anti virus if you use the internet well then you want it to find things.

Nod32 is the best around and uses very little CPU power so wont make the PC slower than a lada

but its not free , i know it used to be possible to get codes but a certain web page / forum has no closed so no more codes

i am now using avira antvir personal edition classic which is free and seems quite good , only problem i have found is when it scans , if it find anything it pauses the scan but doesn't alert you to anything

Best free ones are AVG and Avast.

If you be abit naughty you can find any AV for free as said above if your doing it that way then get NOD32
