Default F.A.O Tuners, big spec owners

Morning all,

its well documented about tuners in the uk, and their credentials, however, if hypertheticly speaking someone took their motor to them and said i have 10k for you to make this into a very fast track/road car, who would you first phone?

I know you cant have a good track car and a good road car but a good comprise is hypertheticly what im after.

Please can someone advise me or tuners feel free to PM me with their answers.

I am not online mon-fri as changed jobs and this does not have the internet available for me.

Many Thanks for your time.

P.S this 10k has to include box clutch diff etc etc. NO particular speak in mind as of yet, if you have some ideas then please let me know. My car is 1989 2wd with a good solid shell.

Cheers

Luke

My Mobile is 077952 46105 if you want to speak to me, no pranks

It all depends on what you term as big spec because if you want 500 plus bhp 10 k will be spent on a decent engine and not much else

Yeah most likely to get most of em but to be honest why dont you buy a car thet is mostly done and if it needs an engine freshen up it would work out cheeper to do that than start from scratch

10k on an engine tho will give you an engine that the car can't cope with.
think handling and braking ,then whats left spend on some milder tuning or picking up a good deal on a built engine.
to go from stage one to 500 bhp is quite a step in a rwd car if you are not used to it. late 300's or 400bhp would be a better start

I'd pay Dom (Jap crap) off here 5k for his 444bhp engine built by Harvey Gibbs

& spend the other 5k on bits for your house etc

OR bigger brakes & good suspension set up

To give you an idea:
6 pots Ł1500
Coilovers Ł1100
Diff Ł1000
Radiator Ł250
Intercooler Ł350
Clutch Ł350
Gauges Ł250
Fuel pumps Ł300
braided lines Ł200
Re-map Ł500

Theres nearly 6k then theres the engine gearbox and fitting plus cage if you want one

If I had 10K to turn a stnadard car into a track car I would spend maybe 3K tops on the engine, and that would basically be to get it to a good stage 3 setup and a very good service (including things like head gasket), Id spend nothing at all on the gearbox if its working ok, get a paddle clutch.
Decent diff, decent rear beam, coilovers, and a really good set of brakes and a set of 888 tyres or similar

Phone Mark at MAD then. TBH if i hadn't already bought all my bits for my new enign then i would have Ryans one.

You then have Ł6.5k buy the turbo and all ther other bits you will need to run that sport of power.

Actually everything above is a lie, if I had free choice I would sell the saph for 5K and spend 15K on a lotus or caterham that was already track prepped probably, LOL

DON'T start with a Saph then FFS!

Your 10k should go on suspension, brakes and a new rear beam and arms for a start!

I think what you need to do is sit down and have a good think about what you want to do with the car.

Eg: I want mine for trackdays and fast road use, so i decided that instead of going for 500bhp+ i would go for around 400bhp. Then concentrate on the suspension set up, Brakes, Diffs etc.

I think the KEY thing here is to get your head round the fact that round track a 330bhp saph with the right suspension will wipe the floor with a 500bhp saph that doesnt have, and more importantly, it wont break doing it!

Nah, keep the saph for the road and buy this

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/175957.htm

As if you try to use the same car to do everything, there will be too many compramises.

Speak to Mike Rainbird about what a saph needs to make it handle well. Then you'll know exactly how much that will all cost. It's all been posted before with all the costs etc. Best place to start IMO.
