Default pass plus

heya i have passed my test recently and as i may need to be using the motorway alot i have decided to do pass plus (and it will hopefully bring my insurance down) just wondered how it worked?

Do you do a test at the end? And if so who examines you, is it the DSA?

I learnt to0 drive with BSM and passed first time so i'm sticking with them, but i'm just unsure how it all works in that area.

Thx in advance!

Waste of time Danielle. It's the instructor who asses you. Makes jack all difference to the insurance - but it is good if u can get some motorway tuition.

Too many drivers are learning by their mistakes in different driving situations. Driving should not be Trial and Error there are too many catastrophic consequences. Drivers aged between 17 and 21 make up for more than 10% of all licence holders but are in involved in 20% of all injury accidents A young male driver is 7 times more likely to be involved in a fatal road accident than a middle aged man. Every year over a 1000 people die in road accidents involving young drivers. It's not just the younger driver who is at risk. Older people who take the driving test later in life are at a much higher risk than those who have driven for some years. Research by the Transport Research Laboratory shows that 'lack of driving experience', not immaturity, is the main factor! The solution to these facts is a Pass Plus Course!

What is Pass Plus?

Pass Plus is a course from the DSA that takes your driving on to the next stage to being a positive and a more confident driver. You won't be expected to achieve an Advanced driver standard, Pass Plus is between driving test standard and Advanced. The aim of the course is to raise the standard of drivers to help reduce accidents on our roads this will then in turn reduce insurance premiums.

There is no substitute for driving experience but professional training can help speed up those skills. This way you can experience different driving situations under supervision. The idea of this course is to develop the driving skills that you already have to help make you a more safe and positive driver. Let us help you build your confidence in driving and in turn you can get up to 30% discount off your motor insurance.

The Pass Plus Syllabus consist of six parts and must be done over a minimum of 6 hours.

Town Driving
All weather driving
Out of town driving/rural roads
Night driving
Dual carriageway driving
Motorway driving

Although there is no test, you must be able to demonstrate a responsible attitude, good judgmental and improved technical skills and then a Pass Plus certificate can be issued. So there is a possibility that more than 6 hours may be needed but this is very rare. Click this link to go to the DSA's Pass Plus web site .

So take the next step to becoming a positive driver and book your Pass Plus course

I am a Driving Instructor.

Whilst learning to drive you should have covered dual carriageways, so you already have a bit of experince in that area.

Pass Plus will teach you some finer points of driving thta you wont necessarily have covered whilst learning to drive.

To be honest, its not essential to do it, just a good idea if you can.

Check with your insurance company before doing it to see if you get a discount - some do it, some don't.

Biggest discount one of my pupils had when we done Pass Plus was Ł900, on a Corsa SXi

Well atleast you are a goldmember, I think its the "how much is this worth" threads by non goldmembers that pisses the mods off.

Didn't even know you had a website mate, I just found your number in a phone box

When I do my Pass Pluss courses, I tend to do them in one hit in 6 hours, and therefore concentrate on the Motorway aspect mainly - take my pupils to Southend and back, complete with stop on the seafront for donuts!
