I think it's over 5 hours labour on Autodata, which is actually quite a long time in the grand sceme of things, so it must be pretty harsh. I seem to recall a specialist tool needed too, but I might be wrong on that.

Engine out job

an utter arse to do
the missus clio's coming up to 72k soon and i aint looking forward to the bill for it to be done
u cant even get to the belt for a proper look with out taking the drivers side engine mount off

edited to say
it's the norm to change the water pump at the same time aswell as the aux belt as said above

Guess its not a cup? If it is its dead easy, if not then take it to Rentech in Portsmouth, only 45min away and certainly cheaper than dealers even with fuel to get there

I think Renault quote sumin like 4.5 hours just for the labour on the cambet / aux belt, with a full service on top of that

And local garage quoting around 250-300 just for the labour on a cambelt / aux belt with me providing the parts

Dont mind doing the service myself, but not too keen on the thought of the cambelt

Guna give this Rentech place a call, as heard alot of good things about them on cliosport, would be good if i could find somebody locally who could do it on the cheap though

Been speaking to a few mates, and im guna give it a go myself with the help of some mates.

One of my mates is a Merc mechanic and is willing to give me a hand, so i think im guna order that tool, sort all the parts, plan to spend a whole weekend doing the cambelt / service, and just take my time and make sure i dont fuck it up

They have a fully floating crank pulley on these I think.
i.e no woodruff key,

Without the spacial crank pin, its a definate no no.
They have a phase shifter cam pulley too, which needs to be positioned correctly.

Can be done in situ, remove the head light for more room!!
I would definately take it to a renault spot though.

Service interval for aux belt is 36,000 on the 172 and 182
compared to 72,000 on other clios
