I thought more airflow equalled more power, be it through more revs or capacity or boost.

220 isn't too hard on a 1.6 cvh

Yeah you could build a good zvh for that but then the problem is you will need a decent turbo to suit and managment system but will be fun when its done

If you thow the cvh away and put a 2ltr zetec in with a slightly thicker head gasket you can get 220 bhp for less than a grand as long as you do all the spanner work.

That includes everything from management to turbo and manifolds.

You could buy a LET for 1200 quid with the 6 speed gearbox, then you just need a few mounts and shafts.
Add the right intercooler and chipset and you have a lovely lag free 270-280bhp that is arguabley more reliable than a cossie engine at the same power level.

Might upset the purists though

less than a grand ? for fresh lump (thicker head gasket? compression will still be to high and it wont last) uprated turbo and managment cant see it myself, i do all the spanner work and i cant do it for that,

The thicker head gasket lowers the compression, and on a zetec it only needs to run less than half a bar of boost to make the power required here, so you dont need to be very low CR.

The management doug uses on that engine is MegaSquirt and he is allowing no money for mapping as he does that himself (still costs a ton in petrol though, lol)

How would it be more reliable at that power level? at the bhp a cossie motor would be built proof.

Because mechanically they are BOTH bullet proof, but the far more sophisticated ECU in the calibra turbo is better at catching faults and preventing problems like Det which you dont get that level of sophistication on most cossie management as it doesnt have a knock sensor on most of them, and even on the ones that do it doesnt seem to work very well and only the latest one has airflow meter as well as map etc for more accurate fuelling, so while both engines are fine at that level, the calibra is more forgiving if you put shit fuel into it by mistake or whatever.

Ps

Also the power delivery of the LET is FAR more suitable for FWD, thats why there are so many quick FWD vauxhalls about and so few half decent ford ones.

FAir enough on that point. But i would like to think a cossie motor can run like standard at that power.
