No Promotion for Rab :(
I was reccomended to be promoted after my last trip away to sea. I was given all box '2' on my appraisal, which is Significantly Above Requirements, for every single reporting aspect 
I was dead proud. Still am
Down side is the personnel chick just phoned me to tell me they have a shortage of 3rd Engineers (me) and a massive surplus of 2nd Engineers. They have 2nd's sat at home on full pay because there's no space on ships for them
So, basically, until they either retire, resign or die I'm stuck as a 3rd.....
Anyone wanna help me bump off some 2nd engineers

you need something to slip in there tea mate 
know how you feel i got a very similar apraisal did all above average in the ver good box just short of excellant although i did get a couple of excellants but i just don't have the experience for the next level yet

after lengthy consultation with friends and family it has been agreed that you too would like to become one of the 2nd Engineers sat at home on full pay due to massive surplus!

RFA, but they wont take anybody else on this year as they are under strict recruitment limitations, earliest I can apply is september and I guess that would be for next years allocation of vacancies.

I've been in this rank since 2001...............
My wages go up every year due to seniority, but I'm getting well bored fixing all the same bits of machinery every time..... I need a new challenge. Something new that I'll have to think about, rather than go, "I've done this 1 million times before" then go into automatic mode....
PLUS... a 2nd is on about 12 grand a year more than me and I want a new car
