Default Careful that your flywheel doesnt explode...






Bits were meant to have went about 150ft up in the air, good job the bits didnt go in another direction, wouldve took his feet off.

R32GTST, standard flywheel that has been machined, so im guessing the machining weakened it a bit much...

Not exactly uncommon on modified and race cars though, hence why many race rules require a flywheel scatter sheild to stop your ass getting sliced.

Yes. Basically. If someone has machined too much metal away from the flywheel or the flywheel has become cracked, then it's possible that it can fracture at high rpm.

i just bought an Ogura ORC clutch which comes with a lightened flywheel so i should be ok. I dont want to make it 6 deaths a year!!

I got told a story (dunno how much of its true) a nova was doing a track day, dunno what engine or box..but the flywheel sheared off somehow, went through the bulkhead and half way through the dash

lucky it was a longitudinal engine installation. what could have happened if it was transverse

that's another reason to have rwd or 4x4

Most mid/rear engined cars are transverse tho, so you always risking a flywheel in the spine
