Default Speeding on the other side of the road

My mate got flashed by a rear facing speed camera in a 30 zone. My mate said he was doing about 50ish but he was trying to be clever so he drove the other side of the road. he discribed the strech of road he was one and said there are only markings on the side of the road he was supose to be driving and also there is a traffic island between the two side of the road. My question is, What do the road markings do? I've been told the road marking are the only way the police can verify his speed, is this true? Otherwise what punishment can my mate expect?

50 in a 30 on wrong side of the road - As a guess the worse case would be dangerous driving, best 6 points for speeding

so what ever pionts for the speeding, and then 5 0r 6 for wreckless driving

They will not be able to prove he was speeding I suspect, but as above, they could easily get him for something far more serious!

What a cock, if he know the camera was there then instead of going on the wrong side of the road why didnt he just break?

break what? he was already breaking the speed limit

aren't all pictures from those types of cameras manually processed anyway, so somebody has to read the reg plate from the photo before sending notice? if so, they'll see he was on wrong side of a keep left which is worse than speeding in a lot of cases

without the white lines i don't think that it can be proved that he was speeding as they were obviously put in to close a loop hole about accuracy

however, the wrong side of the road is not going to be difficult to prove

his only hope is that he is not properly in shot, but i doubt it.

he is a twat and deserves a ticket of some kind to discourage him from driving like that imo

I find that driving at 50 on the wrong side of the motorway is great, feels like you're doing 130 with people coming the other way and the best bit is you're not breaking any speed limits

Your mates a cock... BUT he is very likely to actually get off...

and even if he doesn't its VERY unlikely the technician will report them for anything other than speeding....

AND even if he does get reported, he can just say there was something on the otherside of the road which he had to avoid. Eg. Childs bike, part of a car that had fallen off etc, and he WILL get away with that.

Your mate is still a bellend though!

you mean brake. A lot of people get the two mixed up.

The camera takes two photos and in both it's going to show the car going on the wrong side of the road and I presume when he did this there were no other car's around therefore he's going to get done. The camera actually get's quite a wide shot anyway so it's not as if he can say he was avoiding something or spin up a web of lies. Your mate could argue prove it but the camera will show otherwise

Ahh, I just realized that you can actually say that because the obstruction would be before the camera takes a shot. But even still, the camera went off because of speeding. They can turn around and say why were you speeding even though you claim there was an obstacle in the way?

my friend (a few years ago now) was doing 59 in a 30. He got taken to court and got 5 points and a Ł150 fine plus court costs.

So ur mate is probably looking at 5 or 6 points if they dont pick up on him driving on the other side of the road.

He was going to brake due the obstruction in the road, hit the wrong pedal shit himself so simply steered around from the obstruction on the wrong side of the road ...

Then he will be up for a court appearance as they will be aiming for a minimum 7 days disqualification, plus possible explanation of the other offence (which may well be taken into consideration when applying points, etc..).

Best he park his car up. Looks like he won't be needing it for a while, which, from the sounds of it, may be a good thing.

There is NO set LIMIT for when to issue fixed penalties as opposed to NIP, it is set regionally by each force, but most are similar, NO leeway has to be given.
They can easily take you to court for speeding, as computer takes but a few seconds to super impose your image, onto other side of the road, in the same time frame, the compy can also draw lines across the road for refference purposes, these have in the past been accepted as meeting HOME OFFICE procedure for speed detection equiptment, I am not saying they will, just that they have the technology to do so.
