Just been watching a thing about it on Gossip-MongersTV -

So nurses are getting a whip-round fund from overpaid footballers because they have a hard time paying rent and paying bills etc, and can't afford to buy their own home? Average salary is 19k-21k.

A hell of a lot more than someone gets paid who works in ASDA, or a call centre (UK) for instance, and they seem to manage OK.

Not being able to afford to buy your own home....welcome to Britain!

nurses are paid alot less then 19k, some start at 11k a year, i know as my mate gave it up, and they expect alot from you for that aswell

personally (having lived with a nurse) anyone that works 48 hour weeks, works from 7am- 8.30pm one day, then expected to work from 8.30 pm till 7.30am the next day..................has to put up with patients abuse, filling out unneccesary forms, do horrible chores and generally work their arse off fr very little money

Totally underpaid, considering they train for years, and then have to continue retraining once they are qualified. Bearing in mind any old idiot can join the fire service or police with hardly any qualifications and get better money. Also would be different if they chose to strike as per fire service..

Do agree though footballers giving them a days wages is completely pointless, as will affect a handfull no doubt in London.

agree with the above, my gf is a nurse works 14 hour shifts, cleans up peoples shit & sick as well as taking abuse. also not good when u have to cope with people who you've cared for dying on u
she is on better money than me but deserves it & more for what she has to do

I like how some of you are saying they should go get another job and stop complaining.

If people are chucking more money that way, it would be much better used to pay for more nurses, at the same rate.

I must admit I get a bit annoyed when people winge about their pay when they could go and do something else.

And don't forget the tax breaks they get either... They don't pay the same tx non-civil-servents do...

And don't forget the government schemes to help them out with property, rent etc. Homes for key workers (teachers, fire dept, nurses, police etc) that are allocated to them first, at a reduced rate comparred to us "normal" folk...

I ain't saying it's a bed of roses for them as I know it's not, but it's not all a bed of nails either...
