Default engine management light? streetka? new fords

engine management light has came on and stays on - any ideas of common causes?

is it a main dealer plug in job or will my FRST gunsons fault code thing do me a read? (can't find any plugs to plug it into on the loom tho)

anyone any advice - car seems to run ok.

thanks

my money is on 02 senser 1.

main dealer job only as you can only get a rivised part which requires a later calibration of software on the pcm.

common is for misfire from excessive plug gap as they erode quite quickly with wasted spark

let us know what it was if you get the fault code read

James why would a lambda sensor require a different calibration? all lambda sensors have the same output (within manufacturing tolerances)

If I remove the plugs and regap will this clear the fault engine light?

or do I have to reset it?

Missfire does seem reasonable as perhaps isn't as sharp on pick up as I expect - but hard to tell for me to be honest as swap from diesel that I do 900 miles a week in to the petrol that I do about 5 miles a week in

i can't remember we had one in for testing a while back that had this fault

took it somewhere to have it diagnosed and saw that it was misfire on cylinder x. drove it back and cleaned and regapped the plugs and i think it then didn't come back on again

pass, its just what is said on the TSB!

plugs and leads go wrong all the time, this will also cause the light to come on, but you said it drove fine!

i.e. no obvious problems in the 5 mins I drive it! not sure what happens when GF is driving it as she wouldnt want to tell me if the engine had fell out!
