Virbration through gear knob
Hi guys,
This is not a new issue.
As an observation, when making ground in the cos, if you put your hand on the gear knob, you will feel a lot of vibration. Is this typical of all 2wd cossies, or is this just cos my gearbox etc or something else is allowing too much play.
Having one of those days when I feel like making the car feel a little less shonky.
Any thoughts people?
JJ

fairly typical ime
all down to engine balance, engine mounts, gearbox mounts, prop balance and mounts
has your gearstick been cut down or the rubber joint halfway up been welded for 'improved' gearchange?
could be improved, but at the end of the day you'll still be left with a shonky ford.
think of it this way - the reason that you feel it is because you have such a direct shift mechanism with lots of feel - not some bit of limp lettuce that you find with remote gearshifts

No, I think the gear knob is in its original form, but the balance of shafts etc is an interesting point.
Could be just shonky car syndrome!

Standard, and is why the gearstick has a rubber damper in it, to prevent this from being transfered to the stick. Obviously when you hold your knob firmly , you will feel these vibrations that the rubber bush is trying to "damp" out .
This is why quick-shift kits that remove the standard gear stick on a T5 Cossie are a BIG no-no, unless you don't mind a vibrating knob .

got no particular problem with you
i just wondered why you couldn't seem to understand what seemed very straightforward to me
a worn turbo damper means that the turbo and exhaust manifold will vibrate which could be at the right frequency to make the gearknob vibrate
