right, our boiler keeps lighting for say about a min and a half every 25 mins or so even though we have the central heating and hot water turned off all the time ????

When you say the hot water is off, the boiler will fire up everytime you open the hot tap.

Would say you have a system boiler linked to a thermal store by the descripion you give not a combi, if this is the case the boiler is firing to maintain to store temp.
But with no demand water/heating it sould not fire so often, maybe the control stat is starting to fail and is cycling in out

Hi Matt thats a Boiler thermostat 1 lowest to 6 highest

If you turn HW+CH to off but turn the Boiler stat to 6, and see if the boiler comes on more frequent?

an ideal classic is NOT a combi boiler.

There wil be an end switch stuck on a zone valve...

Cut the power to the boiler to sort in meantime and get a gas eng out to fix it.

I would deffo say you have a timeclock/wiring problem, if it hasnt always done it(since you had the boiler fitted) it could be that the timeclock has gone to open circuit

Hi Matt it dont matter about any other controls(they all take feeds from Timeclock) if your timeclock hw+ch is set to off, nothing should come on

As jon says nothing should come on if there is no "call" for heat.

This is an easy job for someone who knows what they are doing so shouldnt cost the earth.
