Default RS Turbo engine Limitations

Just after some information about certain areas of the engine as i have an aftermarket managment.

On a very solid engine with low miles what is the:

Maximum/safe boost pressure you could run on the standard pistons, rods, head & cam.

Engine's fitted with a Grp A head gasket - Brand new stg 1 hybrid T3.

Cheers.

I don't this its necessarily boost that kills the engine, but consistent high revs, and there's not much point in keeping winding up the boost with a standard head and cam.

on a standard bottom end,
if you want nay sort of reliability and not have to worry every time you hear a funny noise, 17-18psi personnly i think is a sensible figure.

probly nearing the turbos limits then (around 20-21 psi i recon)

at 17-18 psi with a good intercooler, little bit of a head polish and a mild cam, a very solid 200bhp is possible, thing some one got 220bhp at this boost on a similar spec,

nick from peformance ford got 250 bhp at 15psi, but with a roller bearing turbo, tubular manifold and a stage three ported head.

just my 2 pence though lol

bigchez
standard cam is very good for drivability, and lots of people have reverted back to it recently for a tourque gain i believe.

and cvh doent really need to rev much past 5500 - 6000 with that turbo any way as youll be loosing boost by then

the head is where the power will be found, and by porting the inlet ect,

and a flowed head will spool the turbo quicker (bring yout t3 closer to tthe t2 responce, which im sure you miss)

newmans are highly rated, but need solid lifetrs for most.

the turbo should see 26/27 maybe 28 at a push and tail off to 23/24/25

driven hard though, it wont last long, and think a turbo with bigger housing and compressor wheel would have been a better option

wow, i really thought it would be well out of puff, is that a peak figure or a held figure???

still wouldnt want to push more than 18 psi for reliabiltiy

The plan for this is to run it on Megasquirt V3 at around 17/18psi don't know what injectors yet.

The head and cam are brand new and the bottom end is recently rebuilt to standard spec, i will change the head gasket for a GRP A spec item but didn't want to get into serious spending on this as i'm searching for a 3dr too, the turbo i was informed would take this sort of pressure but advisable not to go over.

Thats the sort of power i would like to go to in this no more really, what injectors would be suitable to match say 18psi i thought greens but wasn't sure if these were too big for this pressure???? but i think beige will give up too early.

just go greens,
better to be under stressed then being put to there limit from the start.

greens are fine, what fuel pressure regulator you got>

i think beiges run our at 15psi dont they?

any more power than that, youll be going gearboxes alot, and pissing clutches off,

Haven't sorted the pump/reg yet, as for the box & clutch i'm just using a rebuilt fiesta box with series one diff added, and 4 AP paddle and cosworth 2wd intercooler.

id consider a strong organic as opposed to a padle clutch,

night mear round town,

sounds a really nice spec though,
sensible and well thought out,

Have you fitted ARP rod bolts?

rods = 240 -260 bhp
pistons = 260 bhp,
std RST headgastet, weather Ford or Payden = 350+ bhp

Is the cam new? if not buy a new pattern part item with new followers, this will bring life back to the cam.

arp rod bolts are a required fitment ... or the rods will come apart.
standard head gasket, standard cam, shot peened rods, balanced bottom end , ap organic clutch and mk5 clutch pedal, cossie t3 turbo, skimmed standad pistons, small mods to mfi, front mount intercooler and 22psi is available all day long... did many track days at that spec and was totally reliable mark shead set it up and i recon it would have done another 4 psi easily was estimated to be 230 bhp ish.. upset a few cossies with it
