Default Confused... Help!

Right,

Turbo cars in general.... (well we are really talking about the focus st225)

Graham goode are selling a "COLD AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM" for the ST225 at a cost of £411.20 Which i personally think is an ABSOLUTE rip off for an induction kit but anyway....

This unique GGR induction system comes complete with all necesary pipes and fixings. It has a spun aluminium body powder coated in black with a ram shaped inlet and Conical shaped K&N filter element. It sits on a fabricated stainless steel saddle and is connected to the ST engine by blue silicone hoses ( hoses available also in red, black, yellow or orange by special request - no extra charge).
Surely these "COLD AIR INDUCTION KITS" wont make a difference to anything anyway as the air thats passing into the inlet will have passed through the intercooler...

So in a sense, are these companies not ripping people off? If im wrong someone please put me straight cos this is doin my nut int...

intercoolers cool things, but you can still get cooler.

if somethings already cooler before it gets to the cooler, it will be cooler still.

if all intercoolers were perfect people would never need to upgrade them.

these cold air kits are nowhere near as effective on turbo cars IMHO tho, agreed.

Thats my point though....

But surely by the time the air passes through the turbo from these "CAIS" then its going to be rather warm anyway, hence, the CAIS is a stupid idea on turbo cars.

looks easy enought to make one! get a thermos flask, take the bottom off it,attach it to some boost pipes and away you go! in fact i might try it on the legacy!

yes but what stavros is saying is, a turbo only increases temperature by the same amount, and an intercooler only decreases it by a certain amount.
so for example say the turbo adds 100 degrees to the temp, and the intercooler removes 50degrees, if the air going in is 20degrees, then it will be 120 after the turbo, and 70 after the intercooler.

if that induction kit makes the air going in be 10degrees, then the end result is charge temps of 60 - a worthwhile mod.

obviously tho, that is just the theory, in real life it is probably useless!
