Default Drifting...

NOT that i have a 2wd drive motor of any kind, but I ASSUME that theres some kind of technique/skill in doing this.

If there is, how and what do they do in order to maintain full control, whilst smoking the tyres around tracks etc?

Just a curiosity question.

que stavros!

i have a mate who is excellent and i have to say its not as simple as people think to control a car in a true drift.hanging the arse out of a junction dont count.its the high speed, flowing drifts that seem as one that are where its at and it takes alot of concentration and feeling to do it right

there is so much info out there on it its unbelievable, downside is its really not taking off over here as well as it should.
my mate james has been driving rwd cars like that for many yeras before drifting became known.but if you want to understand you should see a few dvds that cover it.they will show you the insand outs from car set up to on board shots of what the feet are doing.

the key to good drifting is smoothness and being very fluid in the transition between each direction change

NIL- Its HOW to transition and HOW to initiate the drifts that the hard bit tho!

Like you say tho, even tho its a bit shit and doesnt even mention some mega important bits, watching the Drift Bible DVD will give you a half decent idea, though TBH when learning it can confuse you more than teach you

DONT watch "drift it" though, as thats the WORST vid ever, with some guy trying to teach you who hasnt got a fucking clue how to drift

Nah, infact ive got precicely bugger all to do tonight
S12s playing up too so cant even go drifting.

But harder to be more specific without going crazy detailed, and when you learning thatd make it harder than just not knowing So I didnt

What 200SX team? Not Drift Midz, surely?

It depends at what level you talking about, you dont need anything too special for more basic stuff.
But when we talking proper 100mph+ competition stuff, its a bit more specialised.

Beefy- I hope so, prob next yr tho, not sure. Shame being at night made the pics come out so bad, was a good night.
Drift practice there every other week tho TBH, last one was yesterday! And Eurodrift have some rounds there, at least 1 more this yr IIRC.

NIL- Ive had 2, 1st ones gone, 2nd one is being used as a skip at mo, then ill weigh it in I filled the engine to the top with water earlier and tried to start it, just for fun
Good cars, but the S12 works properly (usualy ) so it wins over them at mo.
And a 2litre Sierra or summat is all you need to start, if you got the room for a spare motor, you can easy stick with Ford!

Erm? I dunno? Steer from the rear in their S15s? Aside from Drift Midz in the pale blue S13s, I cant think who else itd be.
Either way, a bit crap in the grand scheme of things IMO, low spec cars and better than us but not amazing drivers, theyd get eaten alive in proper competition.
Hard to do anything impressive and fast in the small indoor autosport arena, need a racetrack to do anything good.

yeah i suppose there are some shit dvds as well, that will no doubt make things worse than rather than help.
i think the best way to get an idea though has to be to go out in a car with someone and watch whats going on,its hard to take in but you can get a better idea due to feeling things as well.

lol you animal, poor old volvo.the silvia is an interesting one,i didnt think they were much cop for drifting.
i dont have to stick to a ford for drifting if i get in to it(would love to)but ive got my eye on another cossie and its alot more than what my saffs worth so all the cash needs to go to that bloody addictive cossies!

Yeah mate, if you lucky enough to go in with someone PROPERLY good, like you have, and Beefy on this thread has too (he a lucky bastard, was about my fave car too!), you get a much better idea, infact you usually come out amazing and realised it way harder than you thought at first., lol. And that its a LOT faster and scarier than it looks from the outside

S12 isnt bad, its just a older 8valve S13 really, nowt special, but about the best 500quid car for it!

Drift Bible is about your best "get the jist of it" DVD, not wrong, just not perfect. Just some people will sit and watch it 50 times, then think theyl be able to drift.
Would be 200times better spending that same time just in the car trying! If you can go to a day or whatever where others are there with more experience, get someone in the passenger seat with you, or you become a passenger n let em drive, and you learn a lot, and everyones more than happy to help.

aint that the truth about the dvd, alot of people must think they can drift easy just cos they watched that dvd
i must admit going out with james and that othere little ginger bloke gave me such a better idea, the ginger bloke made james look crap at the time though

alot of people really do not understand how hard it REALLY is which is a shame as i reckon more peopl would have more respect for what they do if they had.

500 quid for an s12 is cheap aint it.am i right in thinking they aint got intercoolers?

Which little Ginger bloke was it? Mitto? I forget. TBH I think James is better than Mitto these days! He got loads better over the course of last season and this season (If it was the other ginge, BonBon, I take it all back, as IMHO he the most talented drifter in the UK )

They good, though some people in the UK make both look a bit crap, and then some people from Japan make even those people look a bit crap, its suprising how amazing some are!

And yeah, shame more people dont realise, but its like a lot of things, without experiencing it 1st hand its hard to know, but easy to chat bout it.
IIRC Beefy said it was a massive eye opener for him when he got to go in the ProDrift guys Sil80.

S12s, yeah no intercooler as standard, 135bhp or summat from a 1.8turbo But exhaust, filter, intercooler, and 15psi, and you got 180-190bhp with about 200lbft of torque, more than enough, esp as the T2 spins up from nothing.
Gonna get hold of a 4x4 Saff cooler for mine ASAP so i can wang the boost up, even tho TBH even with the 135bhp or whatever I got its fine for 3rd gear stuff in the dry, its good really, get better easier if you dont rely on power.

Mine is supriusingly low miles, good nick, n long MOT, so quite cheap, but 500quid can get you a perfectly good one.
500quid is about average id say, a quite big spec one has been for sale on SXOC for a bit for 600quid.
On DW recently there been a yellow one converted to a pickup truck and a matt black one, both with mods like wheels, exhaust etc etc etc, both for about 500quid.

are the S13's a good starting point or not really? My mate had a 528i , the old Y reg pimp mobile shape that had a welded diff, and that was great fun . I fancy a drift car, as I am pretty handy in a RWD and I think I could pick up basic drifting fairly easily, just be nice to have a car to "grow into" as it were

may have been bon bon mate, really short with a ginger beard, looks a bit grungey sort of?
i have to say julan was the best on that day.his old e30 was flying and so so smooth unbelievable car control.

how long you got to get an intercooler mate?im breaking my car soon so i can raise funds for the new one.

i quite like the old silvia, classic design.a pick up version sounds cool may have to just have a look at it. the japs like converting their cars to pick up dont they?

RWD COSSIE WIL...the s13 is an excellent car to start driftng in,not too expensive and has a really good base chassis to get you going.plus the benefit of so many modding parts out there

Will. Yeah, decent base, like all cars they a bit crap as standard, but potentially better than most things, mostly as there so much available.
Pretty much anything is, talent is the biggest factor, pick any RWD car you want to use, and use it.
People usually just blame the crap cars when its them thats crap, hence the reason for the Sierra GLSI drift series mentioned on here over the last few days.

Nah, Bons not short or grungey, just a little strange
That sounds like Mitto, little Liverpool (or pretend liverpool ) geezer with lots of tattoos.
Intercooler? Well, dunno, nothings urgent. When you gonna break the car?
The pickup was converted over here, but yeah, they love their pickups, there a v.cool one being imported by someone I know soon actually.

Im gonna quote Stavs favorite saying now!

"its all about seat time"

Practice is the only thing that can make you a good drifter! I have been at it for about 1.5 years now and i have always had a sierra 2x twincams and now my drift spec 24v cosworth. everytime i try a new track i learn new stuff! Last time i was at teeside i had to learn shifting down from 3rd to second while still drifting which i had never done before!

Heres soem on car action form my sierra!

http://www.trampdrift.com/videos/bullet_0001.wmv

The next Eurodrift Round is at Teeside on the 16th of June!

Are the skyline GTS-t 2.0 r33 shape any good, or are they too heavy, as a local importer is picking theese up for under Ł1500 - a temping option co0nsidering the striaght 6

If its a R33 and a 2litre it wont be a GTST.

It will be a 2litre 6cyl non turbo poo heap.

And deffo will be at that price.

infact it's a 2.5 , sorry was getting confused with the R32 gts-t that my mate used to have , My mate had it in his garage yesterday for it's MOT, was in ok nick , but I expect it will be on the forecourt for Ł3000+, as the guy usually puts a hige mark up on them, but as my mate does all his serviceing and MOT's, I might be able to get one for a sensible price

R33GTSTs are decent cars overall really. Like a Supra, a big jap RWD car, just with half a litre smaller engine.

There are at least 3 competing in Eurodrift (inc Ex-Boyzone member Shane Lynch in one of the 2 Japspeed R33GTSTs!), and 1 competing in EDC, so they not bad.
Simon Perry is winning amateur class in Eurodrift in his.

I am just thinking Jap cars due to them being fairly cheap/reliable, and they prob have loads more drift suspension tuning parts avaliable than a sierra/BMW etc?

TBH BMW/Sierras have a huge race history, so fully adjustable suspension geometry is available for both them cars too.

If you just building a learner car, you dont need that anyhow, not for a long time.

again, just thinking about progression at a later date, better to have an easily upgradeable car than one thats going to have to be sold or cost a fair bit in R&D .... Also nice and easy to work on would be a big bonus, been told S13's are a pig to do engine work on

By who? David blunkett?
We shit mechancics and me, fudgey, and bigwig got the engine out of mine in about 30mins on the driveway.

Wether you get the UK model with the CA like mine, or a jap one with an SR in it, its just a normal 4cyl 16valve engine, easy as pie, bit easier than the Skyline IMO, but all are simple enough.
