Default Hard drive magnets on oil filter?

Bonjour, just been reading about oil and found an article about putting HD magnets on your oil filter to create a magnetised oil trap to catch any particles of metal...

apparently it HAS to be Neodymium magnets as over time normal magnets lose their strength and could poteintially dislodge a wad of metal shavings and that wouldnt be very good eh...

anyway, anyone ever done it/heard of it? got 2 here I might stick on jus for the hell of it when I change my oil later

Im sure there was a thread on here about a guy who had dropped something into his engine and could not find it....

there were various replies from people and one was from RW saying he had dropped a collet or someting similar into his S2 about two years ago and wasnt worried due to the sump being magnitised...

the sump plugs on some bikes are magnetised so that when you change the oil you get all of the metal shavings out at the same time.

wouldn't matter, they'd just get trapped in the filter

I have a reusable sump plug in the escos that has a magnetic rod attached to the end of it that catches any bits of stray metal. I got it from ebay for about a tenner.
