What happens if I cut this off my cossie water pump?
As title, what is the consequence of cutting down the threaded section highlighted on the pump below? I need to gain 5mm of space in this area in front of the engine.
Can it simply be trimmed down or will that effect the ability to hold the pulley?

You could do me a favour and cut it off?
I was planning on leaving a couple of mm to ensure correct location of the pulley still.

if you don't have a viscous fan you won't need it
but find a scrap one and drill a hole into it to see how deep the metal goes first before you start lathing it down

We work to 1+1/2 threads to ensure it is in safety (Aircraft).

The amount of thread visible relates to a bolt guing through a nut, and so clamping force is involved this is different.

Aah..didn't realise the pulley was bolted on and the threaded portion was more of a guide.
I can see where it is bolted on now.
In that case cut it flush to where the pulley ends.
That way you will gain your 5mm plus the pulley will also sit on this bit aiding stability.
(I take it that it is the same part that's actually needed on non-cossies then ?)
