Default When fitting an MSD chip

why do you need to turn the co pot 5 turns to the right then 1 1/2 turns left ?

The CO pot is a multiturn device with an end that you cant feel when you go past it.

By turning it 5 times, you reach and go past one end, the by turning it
exactly 1.5 turns the other way, you get to a known point.

When you say you "feel" it do you mean it has a dead end of travel ?

The adjustment has an end but you wont be able to tell its there.
There is no dead end as such.

Think of it like a slipping clutch.
