Anyone with Wall mounted plasmas/lcds?
Another one
Just wondering what youve done with the power cable? Have you run it behind the plaster then brought it out to a socket low down or have you taken it down the wall behind the plaster to a fused spur?
Also, any pics of your set ups to give me ideas?
And, is there a best height for it to be mounted?

Unless you are doing something cool like Frosty's set up (which I think looks hella cool!!!) the best way is to channel the wall out and "chase" the cables into it. Use an angle grinder to channel out the wall, and run cables inside some conduit. Important! Run MORE cables than you need! In fact run a cable for every input the TV has! Why? Cos at least then you can plug in extra stuff you might want to in the future!
Wherever your wire need to come out, you can get some cool wall boxes for them on the web - either with proper terminates on them (like scarts, HDMI, phono etc) or a simple double-socket box with a hole in it to push cables through. Position this behind whatever kit you have.
I need to do this with my speaker cable for the rears, but I don't want to get into decorating my lounge! So for the time being it's tacked around the skirting and taped down aross the door way runs!

Thrush ive no need to channel mate, its going on a stud wall. Ill also be fitting the dvd and sky into the wall too so they are inset Behind it is beneath the stair which isnt accesable so its ideal to inset them
I think i maight create an access panel in the tumble dryer cupboard which is also under the stairs, and put the sockets there actually, so ive got no sockets or anything showing in the room at all
i do like the idea of having speaker terminals tho
Also, a guy i used to work for had a massive house and had the pros in to fit his room out with surround sound, and his rear speakers were ceiling height...kinda like alarm infra red jobbies lol...and it sounded awesome...but i thought the rear went at ear level

no just drill a hole through the stud rich...
Ideally if its 75mm studding you dont drill much more than an 18mm hole
Or, do you mean by 'dropping' the cable down? If so then yeah youd have to channel, but as im removing some plasterboard to create the insets for the dvd and sky boxes i can feed all my cableing at the same time...
on other cases, you might find you dont have noggins Depends whats centres the studs are...or if they are wood or ali studs

Cables are fed though the void in the plasterboard and out though the other side skirting into the 'guts' of the system in another room (toilet cupboard) you can see the cables running in a cable tidy above the skirting in the bathroom. Its all controlled by a radio pronto including a 400 disk dvd changer which you can select which movie you want on screen. Subwoofer is in third cupboard along.

Here's mine in gory details. The white pipes aren't for water, they're there for future possible cable needs, although I have run every cable the plasma screen currently accepts
