Default Removing a standard Vauxhall head unit! (double din!)

im changing the head unit in my vivaro van cos its crap, it plays tapes and its made by GRUNDIG! I have bought the facia adaptor from ebay so i can put my single din cd player in it.

i came to take out the GRUNDIG unit and i cant!

It has 4 holes in it, i suppose these are for sterio keys but the ones i have are for a single din unit, not a double.

Can i just stick a pozi drive screw driver in each of the holes and pull out the unit or does it have to be special vauxhall keys ???

Cheerz.

if its anything like the corsa units there are 4 screws and then behind them you will need 4 thin nail to push across the catch type things

yeah, just like the corsa.

I took out the screws, shoved me alen keys in the holes and pulled out the unit, got my finger caught in the tape player, pulled it out and grazed it.

Looked in the hole where the grundig was and my unit wont fit in !!! my unit has 2 holes in the back and the vivaro has plugs for 3! AND the airel is a plug in bit that wont fit mine !!!

I only bought the head unit 3 months ago, i thought it would fit in anything !!!

Mate, if it's still out will you take some pics please, esp the wiring. I'm replacing my mates stereo in his vivaro very soon: already bought the single DIN face adaptor but waiting for him to have some spare cash before buying a head-unit.

Can you not get an adaptor for the aerial: there's a plug one with a pin, but also a reverse adaptor to make it a female connection.

What's the "my unit has 2 holes in the back and the vivaro has plugs for 3!" bit ??
Do you mean the wiring loom? Is the 3rd not for steering controls?

3rd will be for the steering wheel controls or the display on the dash (if a vivaro has that)

Do some models have steering controls? My mates hasn't hence why I wasn't sure. No display neither from what I can remember.

If your stereo is ISO

Just chop off the top longer block- it wont be any use for your new stereo.

It does 2 things- its the inputs for the steering wheel controls and its the inputs for the screen.

None of which is required.

The adapters are available for the aerial plugs for a few quid.

No problems at all- I have done this many times on customers car.

You also need to ( i think ) remove the standard black stereo cage- 1 torx screw at the back of it and the squeeze the 4 sides in and it will pop out.

There you go... job done.... panick over.

PS

Just because your vehicle has neither stereo controls or screen wont make any difference.... the longer plug will be there anyway.

Jake, is the aerial adaptor the male/female adaptor I mentioned?

Is it a 'full' cage fitted into the dash then as opposed to car stereo cages which are about a 1/3 depth?

Rich_bloor Can you do pics of the bits Shings mentions please.

To you both.

as said above vauxhalls 3rd plug is for steering wheel control and the display on the dash so you just cut the longer of the 3 plugs off and fit the 2 std iso plugs into the back of your new unit

Top of my head normally Vauxhall have the female on the lead and male on the stereo. You just get the adapter looks like a big syringe/needle.

Yes it will be a full cage for the double din stereo...
