My Granddad was diagnosed with cancer of the lungs around Christmas time and was of ill health ever since then until 2 weeks ago when he passed away. The condition that he had was called Mesothelioma which is caused by being in contact with Asbestos.

During his working life as a Chartered Accountant he was only ever in contact with Asbestos once that he can remember, which was whilst auditing an asbestos plant in South Africa for one week.

This condition is very treatable if caught early and I would like to appeal to anyone that has / thinks they may have been in contact with asbestos no matter how slight the contact to book an appointment to have a chest x-ray and ensure they do so every year if not only for your sake but for your friends and family.

The condition eats away at the lining of your lungs and makes your lungs fill with fluid until they cannot drain anymore fluid as the risk of the lungs going into shock is very high. In the end you end up breathing through your abdomen until you pass away, and all this could potentially be prevented by having just one x-ray per year.

As previously stated mate, get yourself for an x-ray, the chances are slim but I wouldnt take the risk, will only take you 10 mins out of a year!

Tbh i think its alot more luck than anything my grandad worked on ships when he was a lad, they used to insulate the piping with it by hand and have snowball stylee fights with the stuff and hes absolutely spot on. Same with the other one and he had a decent inings of 81years of age!

But i can understand your point. I wouldnt even know what it looked like if i'm honest.

My Dad has a similar condition. But he's already beat the 2 years the docs gave him

He worked on ships from the 50's to the 80's when they'd just strip the asbestos straight off the pipes, no masks or nothing.

I asked him if he knew of the dangers back then, he told me, "aye, but we were hard as fuck back then. You young folks are all poofters...."
