Well if it's as described and not been moved for nearly 20 years then I wouldn't touch it with a fucking bargepole!

Also if he thinks that it's one of the cleanest 3dr's in the country then i'm Billy fucking Ocean!

That engine bay is bad for a car of that supposed mileage, it's quite obvious it has sat about if it's like that....

discs look a bit shiney to me???? My RS sat in my garage for 2 years and still had surface rust on them. also is that a tear on the top edge of the rear passengers side seat?

would be a little carefull before parting with that sort of dosh without checking it out!

PERSONALLY : I'd say it's worth a look.......what do you expect a car that's been standing for 17 years to look like.........

Think back......what were you doing 17 years ago.

This could be a very good find.....but I wouldn't think of trying to start it until I'd checked everything and changed the cam belt, oil, water, brake fluids.

i think the problem with it is going to be that it'll need a virtual strip down and rebuild of all the major mechanicals after having sat for so long
and the wiring isn't the best even now, what if it's had a mouse nibbling at it?

and no spare?

and he's not even turned it over?

i've got a sierra thats sat in the garage for the past 2 years and that won't even crank

Im afraid it just doesn't look right to me. On the other hand Might be completely genuine. Its an old style tax disk to from 1990 so there's one bit of proof that it might be straight. Nice to get the Reg number.

On previous post someone said it will probably need some work doing to it, pipes etc will more than likely be fooked, also if its been sitting under a cover for 17 years and the engine aint been fired up on a regular basis that won't be too good for it either,

donno hard to judge without seeing the car up close and personal

As already mentioned disks way to clean to have never been used in 17 years. Wheels dont look to clever for only an 8k car thats been dry stored for most of its life either.

as long as the coolant in the car was ok the engine being sat for that long will be fine, just a quick change ht lead off turn over for 30 secs, let the oil setlle on all parts and fire it up, how many mueseum peices never go anywhere then just get booted up for a quick show??????????

brakes are definately dodgy but they could always have been oiled up if the owner knew it was goin g to stand for a long time????

the wheels are dodgy but oxidisation will happen as there is oxygen in the air peeps so just one of them things???

the original was this u?

Q: if the car has been under a cover in a garage for 17 years, and has only done 8100 miles since new, how come the seats look very worn and the carpets and pedals look very worn and dirty too? 12-May-07
A: are you winding me up? a member of the rs owners club looked at it yesterday and said it was the cleanest one in the country.

i think personally would leave it well alone not been drystored correctly still got fluids in in need of definate rebuild on the cards better off buying a shell plus id and starting from scratch bought a sapphire cossie in 1997 only done low mileage had been stored for 5 yrs had more greif than a "time of the month mother in law"

Why has the wheel been rebalanced after only 8,000 miles? Looks like the weight has been moved after a tyre change.

You'd be mad to pay top dollar for that without knowing exactly why it was put into storage in the first place. Could well be that someone blew the engine up which is why the guy allegedly hasn't turned it over or tried to start it.

There's no way that the washer fluid in that bottle is 17 years old either, - it would have evaporated years ago. Besides it looses its colour after a few years sitting. Looks like it was filled up just yesterday.

More people would bid if they knew it ran or was capable of starting. It's very curious why the guy won't do anything about moving it etc until its sold.

That tyre would be cracked at the bottom if it had been sitting there flat for 17 years with the ful weight of the car resting on the rubber

Does seem a tad bizaree. I reckon IMO, it was involved in something or is a ringer for it to be stood that long if it has.

Would be interesting to know the full story behind it.

I cant make my mind up you never know but i will tell you this i have seen 3DR COSSIES with 100kplus on the clock with better condition interior than that unless its just mould of being stored who knows it could be a minter personally i would give it a miss with or without the money available.

I was looking at that on ebay the other day and no way does that look 8k miles. It's even got more mud and filth build up under the arches thatn my 90k mile golf.

Then again I've seen some pics that make a car look stunning, then viewed a piece o shite.. so the camera does lie..

Just to say I bought this car and it checks out OK, After removing the fuel tank which was full of sludge and replacing the fuel tank, pump and filter, as a precaution. The car fired up and has since flown through the MOT and is back on the road, I have uploaded some pictures onto my website at www.XXXXXXXXXX if you want to take a look. Plenty more details available.

Each to their own, if you know of an 8000 mile cosworth at all, let alone one for less than that then fair comment.

Look the car checks out, HPI clear, all paperwork present and correct, all the wear and tear on the vehicle is consistent with mileage, storage etc. The guy actually selling the vehicle worked at the dealership it came from. We managed to get it back on the road relatively easily.
