im thinking of putting Autometer rev counter and speedo into my dash were do they take there information from ie does the speedo run from original speedo cable or do they use there own.

modern rev counters and speedo's generally work off an electrical pulse rather than mechanical outputs.

Speedo will most likely be ELCETRONIC ?, so will have sensors fixed to prop then there will be a series of DIL pins to set to get as near as pos to accuracy.
Tacho uses the oe signal.

on the xr4x4 they have a vss that goes into the speedo drive on the sump and the cable connects to there

so possibly you could use one of these as the electric impuls for the speedo

though im not sure how they work

Speedo will be able to tap into the vehicle speed sensor, the rev counter can be made to work off pretty much anything, such as one of the coil -ve's

Stuff like Stack use a wheel speed sensor that we used to mount on the front wheel to read off the brake disc to bell bolts.
