Default Tat on Ebay

Grrrr, time for a rant!

I recently bought some AP calipers on Ebay from 'Cossyman':

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...1903&rd=1&rd=1

Not cheap as you can see, and there was definately some suspicious bidding going on (check out bidder 8) but as they were advertised as 'NEW' this was ok, when they came (from a bloke called Peter masquerading as 'ashfieldmotorsport.co.uk' they were used, infact, well worn!

The transfer pipe had been taken off one of them, two bleed nipples were missing, they had brake dust encrusted on the underside, the steel bits were corroded, the fixing bolts were rounded off, they had been very badly tarted up using black and white paint and as an email came through from the bloke who sold them denying they were used I noticed dirty brake fluid running out of one of them!

He charged me £15 to send them, It'll cost the same to send them back and he's threatening to deduct the Paypal fee of £15 (plus I'll get it knocked off at my end too if/when he reimburses me) So I've lost out to over £45

He's now sending me nasty emails saying that I'm ripping people off and that there's nothing wrong with them.....

Watch out for this joker and don't get caught out like I did, the only winners here are Ebay and Paypal and they don't give a toss.

Ahhhhh, that feels a little better.

There isn't much of an arguement, 'NEW' doesn't mean 'used'.

Cossyman is Pete from Ashfield spares off of here.

To be honest I have dealt with him a couple of times and have always found his service to be spot on.

The BEST way to deal with Pete is to ring him and chat to him face to face as putting this post up isnt going to help matters for you.

Although i can fully understand your annoyance at the fact these calipers appear to be used when the description does state quite clearly theyre new.

If Pete has mis advertised them or mislead you in any way i am convinced that he will refund you in full as he is a reputable trader on this board.

I thought traders on here were TRUSTED , or is it a matter of a quick clean in a parts washer then ask top prices.

and whats your point!!??? a trader has to charge more as he has overheads plus you would have had some comeback if it were faulty. a private seller can always undercut a trader as they have no overheads and offer no guarantee (sold as seen)!!

so we can get supposed new parts / or good order parts, LIKE THE BLOKE ABOVE.

At £250 i can get nearly get 2 cossie diffs for the price of 1.

And how good are traders guarantees.

Is it one of those verbal guarantees thats not worth the paper its written on.

SOME of these traders, selling New parts that lets face it was new once upon a time

Wake up pal

A trader can / will never be able to match private sale prices mate ,,

Thats like saying you can make a portion of chips at home for 30p and yet the chip shop want £1 for them ,,its called overheads mate

People have no idea what sort of money we pay out every month to be able to trade

I think you need to wake up pal!!

you obviously dont know the traders on here, by law a registered trader/Business has to sell goods fit for the use they were sold for, ie if they sell you a diff and it falls apart within a week you are entitled by law to a refund, if its a private sale you are entitled to nothing.

i have dealt with many traders from this board and have found them all to be honest and helpful and all parts i have bought have been as described.

im not denying things can go wrong but one would hope a decent and honest trader would sort it out amicably.

Jim Green

I was thinking the exact same thing so that means 2 things

1 the buyer is a fucking idiot for buying them

2 the seller has some big old brass balls to even put there new on an add

they look like they've been painted by a 2 year old

lets wait for the other side of the story before we start preaching, the pf jury won't return a verdict just yet, but i have heard some fairly dubious tales regarding a certain asford motorsport in the past, but this was a good few years ago, like 10 years ago so perhaps things have changed since then

Just highlighting this point, and before I say it this ISN'T directed at anyone or any traders from passionford, BUT, if this happened I seriously seriously doubt that people would give you a refund mate!

Their first reaction with a situation like this is going to be fuck off you've been launching it and killed it!

I can't see anyone doing this for people!

btw pete had them for sale on here for 300 quid, so if you had shopped here first you could have saved a lot of money!!
ebay isn't always the best

100% correct Dan

I will warrant that a diff / gearbox / engine etc is fit for purpose when fitted and thats it ,,,,,,
How can you give a warranty with a part thats 15 / 20 years old

Cossie when new were only 220 bhp ,, most now are 300 / 320 bhp

If you bought a brand new diff from ford they would give no warranty if the car was anything other than 100% std , so how can you expext a trader who sells second hand to give a warranty that the manufacturer wont and there selling BRAND NEW

Having said that ,, Im always willing to help any unhappy customer so every claim is looked at and is always sorted one way or another to the satisfaction of the buyer and seller
I have been very lucky tho and only had about 4 complaints in 5 years and all have been sorted

Don't blame you Paul, I wouldn't expect anything like that especially on second hand parts!

Cawood Think about it mate, the guy has only 2 posts and his first one is straight on here slagging a trader off! Do you not smell a rat?

What does it matter if the seller is a user of this site?

surely the chap has every right to moan about someone being dishonest - he has been contacting the seller so whats the problem

its totally wrong to sell something as new where its clearly not, i mean come on who studies an ebay pic that closely? now we know its been painted we can all look at the photo and say 'could tell a mile away used'.....

He doesn't now appear to be banned but isn't it strange that someone buy's something off ebay off someone he barely knows, then all of a sudden joins a Ford Forum which, Pete happens to trade on to have a bitch!?

I'm not saying what anyone has done is right or wrong if you read my post's!

I was just going to say the same, imagine the replys if it was atm and not pete.

Not that i'm saying pete is a dodgy trader but in this case it certanly looks that way. I'm sure all will be revieled when he replies. Then everyone can bum him and slag this newbie off cause the traders on here are god like

Obviously i know v little about this individual apart from the ad i seen on here but i'm of the opinion it's between the buyer and seller to sort out amicably (if that's a word ).... but as for Pete, i've spoken to him a number of times on the phone and by pm. He's always been a great and easy guy to deal with and even wanted to send me pics of stuff before i parted with my hard earned cash for it. Top bloke in my opinion
