If its diesel make sure the cam belt has been changed every 36K and 40K on petrol, The heads cost a fortune, I speak from experience

Check the rear suspension arms, they are very thin and if knocked they bend very easily

Front subframe alignment anyone? Watch out for iffy front tyre wear/steering, many early Moneo's had problems with improperly aligned front subframes......unsure if it applies to later models.

bottom suspension arms fail, easy job to fix, headgaskets on petrol models common failure, don't buy a V6 if using as a runaround, very thirsty and design fault with the water pump means the first sign of trouble you get is 2 blown headgaskets a real pain of a job to fix.
brake pipes to rear always fail above petrol tank(mud trap) check if they have been replaced.
apert from that they are good workhorses, I own 2 the wife has a w reg 2.0 zetec and I have an N reg ghia X with all the toys

My Mum has had a few Mondeos her life lol, and everyone has had a fan problem where it keeps overheating. And they haven't been high mileage ones either

Other than that they were/ are good cars. I am probably going to get one as a run about soon. Just steer clear of the 1.8's they are SO fucking slow, the 2.0 litres are a bit better obviously but still nothing to get moist over. I fancy a V6 personally with all the toys.
