Default ROAD TAX can somebody explain

I know its more then likely been covered somewhere but I cant find where.
Whats the prices of road tax these days as I get told a different story everyday.
Was hoping to purchase a 4.2td Landcruiser until I was told it would cost £400 to tax it
Can somebody put up prices different engine size as I assume thats where the differences would be.
