do they rust like the saffs?or do people just not use them enough to let em rust?
and do you think the prices will dip or stay as they are?

they defo rust if not looked after ive seen a couple of right sheds

its an escort after all

and no i think they can only go up in value

They rot like crazy!!! There are some good ones about, just as there are sierra's, but in general they rot like mad. Bare in mind I've probably looked at hundreds over the years so am speaking from experience, not just one or two cars!!

Value wise, the good ones will go up, the cr@p ones will continue to go down, just as the sierra's have.

just seems you always hear of people having to do sill welding etc for mot's on the saffs and dont hear so much on the escorts or 3drs.

at the mo the escorts are as low as 11k for a not so good one i spose and as high as 18k for a clean one.and that doesnt seem to make a difference if its high bhp either.which i find strange as you see them at 400+for what you can get a stg 1 minter at as well

Probably because someone doesn't want to admit to having welding done on a car they just paid 15k+ for...lol

my old saph was an e plate and was absolutly spotless underneith never been welded and was no ign of it needing doing in the future. My escort is as equally as good underneith, but the commen rot points on the escorts apparently is battery tray front sills/wings behind body kit and back panels.

good saffs are getting hard to find, infact the whole cosworth range is becoming more scarce, a few years ago there were easily 10 pages of cossies on the autotrader, lucky now to get 4 or 5 - People keep breaking them for spares and because you get more cash back, but it won't be long before they get to the same point as mk1 and 2 escorts, where the values will shoot through the roof

Thing is, there were only around 7000 escorts made in big and small turbo I think? Supply and demand, and constantly reducing numbers due to thefts, crashes, people breaking them etc. Also the fact that they break for so much is the trim, spoliers, shell, ID, bumpers, etc. The mechanicals don't fetch much more than a STD 4x4 saff .

lets not forget that underneth the escort is a sierra so if not cared for they are going to rust luckily i've just stripped the crap out of my escort in the hunt for rust to catch it early and there is none it has only done 46k though while i was there i spent 3k on a full repaint i love all of them they all have there own plus and neg's but what other 15+ year old cars do you know that hold there money like cosworths

ive been around he rs scene since i was 20 im now 30 and still cant get out.they aint the best cars by any means but they have alot more character than most cars.
i just wouldnt be comfy in a new evo or similar.
a white 500 is the best there is for me but i do love the escorts too.but they have to look hard for me as alot look too pretty for my liking

There were just over 25,000 saffys made and 8700 escorts if i remember correctly.....

Its all about demand and supply for the cars and the demand and supply of parts too. They'll always be worth good money in my opinion.

you are not wrong, i had 305 bhp when i got it , been @ 450bhp for just over a year , and plans are already underway for 580bhp how far do you go ?? ( or should i say how deep is the wallet !!! )

I wouldnt be suprised to be honest. Think of how many would have been rallied and crashed, broken for spares, stolen etc.

I think the desirability factor will always be there for the escos, even more so for nice ones, regardless of what ford decide to bring out in the near future.

Never heard of any escos' rotting though, although im sure there are a few about. Ive seen a few scaby ones about though, but what other 15 year old cars wont have seen a bit of rust here and there. It all depends on how well its been looked after.

i think the esc cossie has kept its money coz many still consider it to be the last and best performance car that ford made, plus all the rally heritage behind it. Its something the focus st will never be coz theres loads of focus st's around, mass produced wheres the escort was a limited number. U wont ever see a good one dip below 11 grand imo. I personally reckon thats the same for the focus rs. They have all fallen down to the 11/12/13grand mark now, but i reckon coz of the limited number made and the raw driving style of it, it wont go below 11k for a good one

I'd love a escort cossie one day neil, maybe in a yr or 2 time, but i fear about how old theyre getting. But i know if i do buy one i will get the mintest possible and then after that would be the best well modified one possible coz i know i will get bored of standard power in no time so i may aswell give my bank balance a chance in life and start of with a 330bhp one

tell me about it thats why im thinking about not sinking in to the saff.its my own fault cos i took her off the road but my sensible head is saying is it worth ploughing 20k into the saff.when i could find a modded car thats had it done for less or the same. stupid sensible head.

i do agree there will be a few with bits of rust but you dont seem to hear the comments of i had to have this welded and that welded and the sill replaced etc as you do with the saff.

i suppose neil, one slight way to look at it is that if u did spend all that money on a engine build for ya saph, then one day u could buy a escort shell and put your engine straight in

The problem with the escort cossie is everyone wants 1 but people just wont part wih there car for 1, especilly compared to 3 door and saphs. Think about it you can pick a nice 3 door up for 8k a nice saph can be had for 5k but escorts are demanding 12k plus and the only advantage the escort has over the saph and 3 door is the wow factor imo.
