Default a lot said about the Astra - what about the Corsa VXR??

First one landed at work this week and today i took it out for a spin.

Firstly looks wise - hate it! Parked up i thought someone had put a big spoiler on a 1.2 Club! Although the single triangular exhaust looks pretty trick from behind. Front bumper - again looks like a boy racer add on!

As for the drive of it - loved the big seats and cruise control through the village. Also the A/C was nice today (change from the 3dr). Then put my foot down in 3rd. Didnt really pin me back but was pretty quick. Hardly any torque steer which was nice - but that soon changed at the first bend! Really nervous round corners as you try and accelerate away! Also noticed how low the boost threshold is - pick up in 6th at 60 was really good.

Then got to our private testing grounds and did a few standing starts. Really interesting up to around 70 then tails off rapidly past 80. I'd definitely liken it to a brand new version of the fiesta rst i had with 180bhp and a few uprated parts! Definitely underwhelming from what i want in a car, but good day to day car - definitely consider chopping in the ka for one. At £15,500 i don't think they are too bad!

for pics and specs http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vx/vxr/flash/index.html

whats peoples opinions on them so far? anyone ordered and taken delivery of one yet?

The vxr range looks alot better than fords st range, and looking at the peformance figures the vxr's are faster too!!!! A fiesta st has a 2 litre lump and that has 150bhp, that little corsa is a 1.6 and has 190bhp

Fords really need to pull there finger out there arse

but for a little car with decent power the 0-60 time of 6.8 seconds isnt that great imo.

Mate do some reading...

ST 2.0 NA
VXR 1.6 Turbo

The fiesta with a 2.0T engine sure you'd be talking different. Fiesta ST starts around £13.5k btw

Good point, a detuned Focus RS lump or similar would of been awesome in a little fiesta.

Threw all the turbo eggs in one basket with the Focus i spose

So it'll still be 12 bhp down and it wont have a turbo so torque'll be nothin like the corsa??

Also the corsa can come with a factory 220 bhp upgrade!!

The corsa wins hands down IMO and I have a new fiesta!! Lol

if you are testing the astra then defo try the corsa. the difference in how they drive is enormus!! but if you want big forearms and dont like the gym then the astra is the way to go!!

i don't own one ( would if i had the cash ) but i work for vauxhall and have driven a fair few , fantastic car, be careful of the lift off oversteer !!!

the vauxhall tuners have pushed it to over 300bhp but there expensive and don't think big in my opinion.....

the vauxhall VXR center do AP brake ( painted as VXR ) upgrades ECU remaps, suspension and all sorts which DONT affect the warranty !!!

ffs just wrote a long reply on this and now it's gone!!

basicly fords are rubbish using the same lame engines in similair models.

except the st focus they don't have any performance cars and haven't had for the last 20 years something worthwhile to compete with performance vauxhall

lotus carlton, vx220, zafira gsi, vxr vectra, even the older gsi vectra was better than the st200 ford offering.
