Default focus rs head vs blacktop head whats the difference?

i just got me a 30k focus rs bottom end for £300 now i need a head but will a blacktop head be ok?

i have the cams from the same engine so all i need is a rocker cover and a head to make it compleate

all i know it the valves are made different. so maybe get some new valves for a blacktop head?

the chap i got the engine from says a rs head is worth around £400 and sujested that i fit a st170 head and block off the oil pressure for the vairable valve timing and fir the rs cams in that

so what do you think?

i managed to find a head from a 1.8 mondeo for £93 and covers 50k miles

it stll looks like new inside!

it has 1.8/2.0 inside cast in to the head si i'm presuming this will be ok to use on a focus rs lump

so whats it like sorting the shims out?

The cams are thicker as well if i'm not mistaken. If you get a black top head make sure the code on the front starts with AA as the BB codes are 1.8l There is a difference in the combustion area equating to about 5cc i think. Check with Ian Howell to confirm the difference.

humm crap my head i just bought for the FRS bottom end ends with bb

i have genuine focus rs cams

XS7G-6090-BB

and 46 K4 TEA next to the thurmostat housing

so do you think im looking for trouble using this head ?

its using aftermarket management so it's just going to be live maped

and if you look where the head bolt goes near the cam sensor it says 2.0/1.8

The head will be fine to use if you are going low compression. It would only cause a problem if you are planning high comp or massive power. I know of a couple of people that have used them at around the 350bhp mark.
