fuel pump/wiring problem on escort cossie
RIGHT finally got round to fitting new fuel pump etc onto car, removed the old one and fitted new one using fitting kit etc, however i have an electrical 'issue'
it seems as though the fuel pump dying wasnt why my cossie stopped in the first place but more like the fact that the fuse box keps blowing no5 (fuel injection pump) why the hell will it be doing this?!
as soon as i put a new fuse in the box it blows when i turn the key...
if i temporarily bridge the fuse with a bit of wire the fuel pump does work but i only tried this for a second!
mk5redrs from here came and had a look too (cheers mate nice meeting you!) and he wasnt sure either, he said his mate who does auto elecs could have a look at it next week but not only do i not want to trouble him but i would like the car back asap and am hoping it may be something someone could suggest!
what will be causing the fuse to keep blowing? ive traced the wire back from the tank and to the box and there doesnt seem to be any problems with it..
thanks for any help
Phil

20K+ Super Poster.
If it keeps doing it you have a DEAD short to earth.
Take the fuse out again, disconnect the pump, then do a CONTInUITY TEST BETWEEN THE FUSE OUT terminal and the EARTH.
There should be NO CONTINUITY but I bet there is.
Easy way to tell the out terminal is with fuse out see which one is live, ie supply, then it is the other one(terminal).
If there is continuity you have the wire going to earth somewhere, ie touching the body somewhere.
