Default 2wd Sapphire Cosworth fans not cutting in HELP!!!

Hi,

My cossy has just developed a fault when if standing still for a while (5 mins+) the temperature guage will go to the top of normal (before I switch it off) and the fans will not cut in at all. I have checked the fuse and it seems fine.

When driving around it doesn't overheat at all. Only when stationary.

Please help!!!

ScoTTyBEEE...

the fuse for the ice crystal (guessing front heated windsreen) has bubbled up and meleted a bit in the fuse box, could this be causing it?? The actual fan fuse and surrounding plastic is fine. Do you know what number relay I need to check??

Bridge the wires going to the switch in the rad with a piece of wire between the terminals on the block connector. If the fans come on then the problem is with the switch and not the power supply!

Right, turns out it was that fuse I was talking about with the ice crystal for a sign. It's melted a bit around the fuse but works ok if bent in the right direction.

I see what you mean about the 1st fuse!! I wondered why all my dashboard lights, rev counter and thermo guage stopped working!!!

The fan fuse is a 15 but the fans have been uprated, can I put a 20 fuse in??? How can I stop the fuse box MELTING ???

Thx,

ScoTTyBEEE

Yeah I spoke to DazC and he's given me some advice on doing it myself. Trouble is I have the car booked in to be tuned on Sat and DazC can't get it done by then.

Yeah i think it's 8 Amps, as it's only the control side for the relays so it wont pull a lot of current.

The power side for the fans draws the most on start-up. (about 15-25 Amps i think)
