Default Warped Discs

ok, what can you do with discs that are warped (or deposited, or whatever the real technical issue is)

mine are almost brand spanking new, and at 150quid a side, i REALLY don't want to replace them if i don't have to.

can you just reface them? if so is there a special process for doing this? and what should you do with the pads at the same time? (i have a set of decent pads that have about 1k miles on them, so dont want to bin them either)

ps i'm using 3.2 EVO Discs which are floating discs, dunno if that makes a different

You can get them skimmed, just do a search for somewhere near you. What pads, fluid were you using out of curiosity?

that was with standard lines, standard dot4, standard discs, standard pads

didnt have time to fit all my stuff before i left for the ring

i've got to fit:
braided lines (inc clutch)
SRF 5.1
DS2500 pads (used, but vgc)

guzzler, the discs/pads were bought 2nd hand (with low mileage) from an EVO owner who "upgraded" to black diamond

which is quite funny, as i was "upgrading" from black diamond to std EVO... lol

they were presumably well bed in before they went on my car. i'd done about 1k on them before leaving for the ring and they were MINT up until about lap 18 of the nordschleiffe... lol

Ahh, standard pads are pish, my discs got heat spots and became useless on a spirited run once! Now using braided lines, SRF and yellowstuff pads with red on the rear and it's much better. For the ring apparently Pagid yellows are the way to go.

If they are Brembo discs, then they are crap! I managed to warp mine in less than a 1000 miles on my Evo and that was only road use.

jim have you checked the ball joints as when the ball joints fail on the e36 it gives a brake judder affect,,, might be another thing to consider as the ring fucked my ball joints and i done 9 laps of the ring

It could be that the hubs / back of the discs were not 100% clean when fitting. This gives a similar effect after a good few miles...

If it is the discs then I wouldn't bother skimming them.

My mate tried that on his AP's and it didn't work

redkop, m3 evo not lancer evo

johnny, from what ive been reading, warped discs aren't actually warped? it's just the deposits left on the disc itself?

if thats the case then surely they'll easily skim?

Do you mean like this? http://www.pumabuild.co.uk/skimming.htm

I've no idea if it works or not .......I know someone at work had it done on their car at AMD ( the VW tuners down south ) - they reckon it worked but to be honest they were a bit clueless on cars

I covered the 3.2 evo disks with hotspots just using for 'fast' road.

I think its the standard BM pads that kill them.

Read between the lines Jim...................

AMD ( Thurrock) does it or used to? Worth a ring ....but expensive

http://www.amdtechnik.com/technical.brakesfaqs.cfm

Like I say, I'd ring around if you intend to go down that route as new discs might work out cheaper...

Jim Galbally

Have you asked at the garage where you get your servicing done? I'm 100% sure they'd know of somewhere
