Default How would you react..?

Hi all

Just had a turbo rebuilt by a reasonably well known turbo manufacturer. Bolted onto car on Thu Night, and on sat night (after barely 20 miles) I noted that the turbo note had changed.

Being paranoid, I immediately stopped the car and popped the bonnet. You can imagine my surprise and horror to see that the alloy front part of the turbo that you bolt the air filter pipe to had fallen out of the turbo!!!! (this is part of the turbo, not the car).

Therefore, as a minimum it will have been briefly subjected to unfiltered air on boost, but more importantly it wont stay there!

Not a happy bunny

JJ

I'd be okay about it, as they'll fix it no problem. Mistakes can happen

Going to Nurgburgring on Sat this week.

So far on this turbo:

Actuator has broken twice. Second time I had to fix myself as the repair was substandard.
Wastegate arm (outside the turbo where actuator fixes) snapped. Again had to fix myself because didnt want to remove turbo.
Turbo completely failed (bearing and all) after 10k miles and less than 2 years. Even though still within warranty, warranty not honoured and oil blamed.

well,...

this is it you see...

the big companies just care as much as the little ones
hence,...i care,...a lot....

lol

seriously though

a 2 year warranty is pretty fooking good,...even though they did use the oldest trick in the book when it comes to turbos...

"bad oil..."

tough break, hope it gets sorted

Thanks guys for the words

I am happy to say that the company has done what has been in my opinion the right thing.

They are providing a replacement turbo in replacement of this rather troubled one.

So my faith in this particular company is restored

Steve I am still tempted in your turbo when I get back from the ring, but I dont reckon you would ever sell it anyway

Richie - Bovey too far for you to go? Else I am up to suggestions!

James - Tell me about it matey! The car has been doing its level best to piss me off! I now work on the principal that what can go wrong will go wrong! ROFL

I have been quite lucky though to be fair - most probs sorted before they cause major failures, and lots of assistance from the likes of Stu at MSD and JTechSaff etc etc etc

good to hear its sorted, and they ve come good for you

little companies need the business, and word of mouth is by far the best way for business imo, and tend to bend over backwards for their customers..
hence, i will allow a 5 minute fisting from mine...

Interesting aftercare you offer there, Carl!!!! ROFL

Given that Steve will never actually part with his T38 maybe we should have a chat when I eventually decide time for a different tubro for the car (normally every four weeks ROFL!!)
