my ZVH STILL wont rev!! lmao..+ smoke advice!!
1800 zvh FRST 195 chip, beiges, 8/9psi boost, piper cam and pulley (possibly)
it wont rev past about 5k.. now i think my rev counter is right...
you know when youre in say a standardish car and youre accelerating for maximum speed in 5th... and the revs just won't climb anymore... well thats what im getting in virtually all gears. (cant control in 1st at that revs to check and 2nd is bit dodgy)
it just wont build over that....
no rev limiter or hard cuts seeming to cut in... just seems to virtually stop??
any ideas?
cam timing maybe? or is something fundamentally fooked somewhere? (its very strong from 2.5k to 4.5k!! loads rev range! lol)

ah its probably not mapped for fook all.
but just surprised it still wont do it.
dont think its a boost hose collapsing but maybe intercooler is whank in terms of flow and pressure drop?

only had the car on the road since tuesday!! drove it a max of 80 miles.
car was bought like that... so nope not setup.
im a little dubious about taking it to be set-up without first having a go at checking the basics.. as its Ł100. and if its engine, turbo or IC problems... or even cam problem then they will be replaced with totally different solutions... hence making the set-up redundant.
hopefully ill get change to check cam timing soon see what thats at.
I would of thought the standard t3 would of still allowed 6k.
also check if it is actually a t2 cam thats in there.
are the timing marks diff on a ZVH? maybe someone has just thrown it together? without DTiing it?

its a big merc one... big inlets and things but plastic end caps on it so its obviously not the be all and end all of solutions.
I doubt its causing too much of a pressure drop as it doesnt look THAT bad and its pretty big but was just a concern

One of the valves wasn't seating. Do a bore leakage test (If only three tuners had done that first )
It came to light after changing to double valve springs. When changing that cylinder obviously you pump air into the chamber to hold the valves up. It was obvious then that air was coming out!!
Definetly the first place to check. Does it rev past it if you do it off boost i.e rev to 4900rpm come off throttle and take it past off boost? Mine wouldn't go above whatver I did.

valve not seating sounds very likely if thats a symptom you get!! as its breathing a bit.
ill have to comp test it asap.
Matt its EFI.
(oh can you email me wrt to postage prices on 8 litres cheers as im undecided! lol)

jon.... what was actually the problem exactly with the head though?
was it in the build of it or was it a seat problem?? (i.e. components put on wrong or missed etc or not lapped or what?)
cheers in advance!!

right......... started it up today after gapping the plugs fixing a burst water hose and sorting the breather system out....
NOW............ fookin hell does it smoke!! so its fooked somewhere!!
I connected the bailey breather so two rocker cover pipes went into it... one from sump and one to atmosphere....
this wasnt good enough and the car REALLY smoked like fook on tickover.
with one rocker cover pipe going to atmosphere and two of the bailey pipes going to atmosphere there was no smoke from the tailpipe...
does this help diagnose the problem anymore? is it the rings being that worn or could be something else?
also it wont rev past say 5300 even with no load.... just revving it... i havent held it at that as it has no load, but 5300 is pretty much all it will physically rev to?
