Default Fuse box smoking big time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went out in the cos yesterday to get a few more miles on it and kept thinking I could smell something burning! I pulled over and lifted the bonnet and there was smoke coming frome the fuse box After inspection its the fan relay all burnt and the fuse box all melted Starting to get fed up with this bleeding car !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If its any consulation you're not alone, mines keeps melting the fucking loom under the steering colum, no idea why

Too true mate I have already had to re-wire the fan fuse, looks like the relay is next

Me too had to re-wire the fan fuse also, I have also fitted the pro alloy fan conversion that runs less current so that the fan wiring don't get so hot

Poxy ford why didn't they fit a set up that's up to the job when they constructed these cars

Let me guess, 2wd Sapphire?

Only cure is to fully rewire the cooling fan system and diconnect the old circuit from the fans.

My thoughts exactly but i suppose when they came out the factory with 200 odd bhp and all parts were new everything would of been fine lol

This is completely normal for sapphs, must be about 15 people i know so far.

Its not a major job , make a new fan loom, i have done it for mine, i used a seperate relay mounting behind the headlamp, takes power direct from battery, temp sender sends signal to switch relay.

My mate did the same but he put his to switch to earth, so the fan would continue running when engine was off, didnt really see a lot of point but thats what he did

That's unusual!! The 4x4's had a modified cooling fan system that spread the current draw across 2 feeds (1 to each fan) instead of 1 to both fans.

That don't make no difference the wiring is shit and can't hold the current and heat
