Default Some CVH questions.....

Where's best to get the CVH valve stem seal tool?
Will I get the usual blank expression if I ask for one in Halfords tomorrow?

Also anyone know if the later CFi type 1400 CVH head and block is compatible/physically different to the earlier 80s MK4 carbed 1400 engine?

Just thinking if the Mk4 Estate I bought needs a bottom end a MK5+ engine is a lot easier to find, (and probably will be in better shape) so I can use the bottom end or complete lump with the cars original ancillaries.

Anywhere mate. Just go and look at the tool section yourself. If you ask a Halfords type mong, you will probably get the blank expression....

The 1400 blocks are all the same IIRC. The only difference on the later 1400 was a thicker black wall.

Cool, will give Halfords a go when I'm out, doubt anywhere else will be open today......

As for the block, hopefully it won't come to it but would be good if all 1400's are the same....... anyone able to confirm this?

I just used a flat blade screwdriver to twist mine off.

Does he not mean the tool to compress the valve spring without having to remove the head?

I just knock the stem seals carefully on with a deep socket.
Any decent motor factors should sell a valve spring compressor for use when don n situe. I often use the type that you bolt to the rocker fixing stud, seems to work well enough.

Yeah looking for the small tool that lets you change them with the head still in place.... already got a regular compressor but rather not take the head off if I don't need to.

Asked in my local factors for one today and was greeted with a Halfords-esque blank face
