Default Oh b~@#'#'k s blocks cracked ,heads fine

Just changed head gasket as started missing, on number 4.Rebuilt and ran great for 5 minutes.Turned it off to check fluids ,restarted and the bloody thing started missing again

Took out plug and it was wet again. I now suspect it has cracked in an inlet port I hate cars ,thats me now on the hunt for a new head.

and before its pointed out i know i should have had it pressure tested.

any body want a ported ybp as a paper weight

Hi mate, sorry to hear about the problem but i would check the block as well. Had same prob with my three door. put a stage three head at the cost of a grand and it was still the same. think the block liner or something was cracked, but never investigated further as i was still pissed off for spending a grand and still having the problem. so sold it.

Just a thought.

My block had cracked on No3, you could not see it to start with but a little rust stain appeared after leaving it overnight.

Sorry to read about your troubles

Steve.

wouldn't installing liners be better than replacing the block?

what kind of power are u running? Installing liners are quite cheap over my way, way cheaper than a new block, I guess it all boils down to cost

At present 450 bhp on bd10 plus gas but whilst in bits going to bigger cams so 500 plus and gas. It will need to be solid

I know of a few race engines running 500+ hp on normal liners that have been fine, they dont ofcourse do many miles though so it would be hard to judge if it would work well enough in a road car.

Real bad luck that, is the crack visible then ?
