Default Bloody CVH's.....Help!

Posting this on behalf of my friend who is a member of here but is having trouble loading PF

Right here it goes (his words)

the Car: Early MK2 XR2 (85)
spec: Freshly Rebuilt 1.6 CVH with Piper 285 Cam, Ported Head and twin DCNF carbs

was giving it some stick coming back from trowbridge, not overly much though just the odd blast, then i noticed the heater kept cutting in and out, would keep blowing cold air in for a bit. So started to drive it slower and keep the revs down, then it started to make a really bad clicking noise everytime i started to accelerate, but it would go when i eased off the pedal, so pulled over, switched it off to see if i could see anything visibly and it wouldnt start again, one of the carb barrles is pushing air back up out the top and i think the the cooling system is stupidly high pressure can hear it leaking air out of the overflow bit
can any of you lot shed some light on this

Cheers

Lee

Cheers Lee, Not sure why i cant open the general discussion forum

It's not exactly freshly rebuilt though, had piston rings and big ends done just over 200 miles ago, and was told that it would have been enough time to bed everything in properly which other than this it certainly seems to have,

Also i should mention that sometimes the car pinks, (at least i think thats what it is) and it had been doing this shortly before it all went wrong, usually it lasts a minute or so and so i let the revs drop for a bit and after a short while its back to normal,

Cheers, Ju

thought the head gasket might have gone, what might the clicking noise be though?

det mightve damaged a piston ring as well maybe?

the cyl pressure from det gives bearings a good hammering too.

strange to say, but a mildly blowing exhaust manifold can make a strange ticking sound that sounds like summats broken on some cars too.

deffo time to whip the head back off n have a look.

mabye best to get whole engine out, or at least take sump n mains n big ends caps off n have a nose at the bearings if cant see a top end problem tats make that noise?

and get car set up next time so it dont pink, as that fucks engines nicely.

PS- twin DCNFs, cool

Might whip the head off and have a look today, Got my main car to sort out aswell though, thats just failed the mot

I think its lost compression on the number 1 cylinder though, and it was spitting back through the carb barrel when I tried to start it, so maybe a valve not sealing properly?

I'll update if i get a chance

Cheers, Ju

Steve's right about the clicking noise & leaking exhaust, when you change the head gasket (if it is that) make sure you check the manifold & all the exhaust sytem over for leaks.
